I had an idea not too long ago, about a stock market present in Dust 514 that connects to EVE Online corporation stock market, since Mercs spend quite a bit of time in a station looking at markets anyhow. This would open up the following:
-Newcomers would find easier ways to make money without having to focus entirely on PVP (since no PVE currently exists). -This would engross them into the Universe of New Eden, letting them learn this out of self-interest rather than by force (if they choose to exploit the stock market to make more isk to fund suits). -The better advantage is there is no way EVE Online players can exploit this feature, even if they wanted, since the isk economies are exclusive from each other.
So guys, what do you think about this idea? I'm just curious that this might be something that could provide some new options and gameplay that isn't currently featured in a lot of other games (I'm pretty sure Destiny won't have something this complicated, so this could be something unique to bring to the table if we do it earlier). Stuff like this sounds easy to program and correlate with the Tranquility server since they are integrated, and it isn't as time-consuming as composing PVE for Dust 514, so this could at least keep us busy until then.
I'm interested to think what your guys' thoughts are on this.
Thanks, A.M. |

Ouch, well, that isn't the most progressive start to this thread... It seems very cool in theory, but maybe if enough people on here encourage the idea, the snowball might start rolling, per se. |

CCP already has plans to open up the secondary player market where players can rip off and scam each other to their heart's content. But nice idea, though. |

IF you mean a stock market based on earnings and whatnot- probably not going to happen :) You can't truly have a "stock" market" unless the price of the stock is pegged to the value (real or imagined) of the corp.
If you mean value based purely speculation based on which corp is the FOTM of course that won't work. speculation with no inherent value will never work.
works great for ponzi schemes tho! |

Passive income is bad.
That said, I am still looking forward to the first ponzi investment scheme in DUST514 when the market expands to include EvE. |

Yes, but this is would be something easier to implement, since isk is one given variable susceptible to fluctuation whereas a market is a larger range of variables to moderate. Dealing with real numbers by itself is pretty easy, I would assume, and it wouldn't lead to ridiculous amounts of money, but it would catch the eyes of people who might not necessarily play this game for its shooter aspects. |

stock markets in eve fail because no one is willing to make the corporation they run a publically owned company. Even if they were willing, there is no Securities and Exchange Commission to make CEOs be truthful about earnings, accounting, or anything else really. Now, there are some opportunities for investment in Eve, but they're in the form of loans to traders and such. Other than that, you can invest in commodities. |
