We need more guns. Now I have no objection with nerfing the flaylock pistol that thing just physically doesn't make sense, pocket sized fast firing grenade launcher with the blast radius and splash damage of a forge gun? More powerful than the actual grenade launcher of the game? Sure that was a good idea. BUT I'm going to go ahead and guess that there's alot of negative feedback regarding the changes to the laser rifle and mass driver; my theory, which is probably nothing new and something already thought up and discussed, is that there's just not enough guns in the game.
I don't see guns like the assault rifle or scramber rifle getting hit with any big nerf or buff because they kind of keep each other in check, if either one of them became disproportionately powerful compared to the other, even just a little, then one of them would be completely obsolete. That's because they're both basically in the same class of gun and are therefore comparable. The problem arises when these other unique guns are forced to be compared with another class because there's nothing else to balance them with. There is a dominant playstyle right now and that fits with the assault rifle or scrambler, but when something unique like the laser rifle or plasma cannon comes into the picture either no-one uses it because its not worth the time, or everyone uses it in which case people complain about it because its killing all of the dominant players and then it gets nerfed to the point where no-one uses it. The problem here is that these unique guns are being compared to weapons or playstyles that are nothing like it and at that point majority rules.
There simply needs to be more guns, if you want these weapons to be balanced correctly and not rendered obsolete they need other guns that are comparable. Right now these weapons aren't widely used because they don't have a good foundation, in fact it feels like alot of the game doesn't have a good foundation.
Obviously there's also complaints about the race specific heavy suits still not being available, the PvE mode still isn't out, the matches are kind of small, the EVE-dust connection isn't really there and planetary conquest I've heard is kind of pointless and annoying; I get that alot of this stuff takes time but these are things that should have been out a while ago, I really think it's not a good idea to mess with every gun that people whine about while the game doesn't even feel like it's complete yet. First work on a good foundation with what we have available, make the game actually match with what it's advertised to be, then add radically new stuff in to spice things up. Gotta be quick about it or this game is gonna turn into call of dusty. Thoughts? Am I making any sense? |
