This number that you are referring too is not the full story though. It only shows how many are in Dust 514.
Their are more players that are not disclosed as they are in EvE.
Every time you see an Orbital Bombardment think that's another undeclared player. Then you will see their are more players than that too. CCP has also only told you how many players there are in Dust 514 in you region, not in other territories too.
The test server is also not disclosed, as CCP have quite a few players testing everything before they are handed down to us too.
And even if Dust 514 is down to these low numbers you speak of, there are apparently 22 million registered PSN users that can come and play for free. With the new monthly updates and a bit of advertising you can see the number can not only rise, but really rise. I don't think that tranquility could take 22 million PSN users and keep Dust 514 up at the same time at the moment, but rest assured, they will be working on it.

Now that we've been able to see how many are also playing eve at any time too, it's given me some perspective on the numbers - Eve generally peaks at around 45k players, yet we know there are around 500k players in that game. So generally the daily peak is around 10% of the entire playerbase. If this correlates similarly to the Dust numbers, our daily peak is currently around 5k, our active playerbase is around 55k. That's not bad really, considering the lack of advertising and longterm gameplan.

For a free to play game, those numbers are pretty low.

Especially when you consider that only a minority of players actually spend money on a free to play game.

Dust isn't going to die. If this was CCP's only game I might worry, but EvE Online makes them lots of money and ties in with this game. As long as EvE is good Dust will still be here.

You got a free to play game on the PS3 that's done better within 2 months of launch?

 DC Universe online.

Which is an interesting example (which could shut up the OMG PUT IT ON PC crowd) as despite being available on both PC and PS3, the vast majority of players are on PS3

Numbers are slowing down no. by end of next week, we will be back at 4k. The Jedi council needs to hold another meeting. I still think its what caused the spike.

We all know the state of this game, hence here and even in game, its all just one big hang out spot. CPM mentions theirs gonna be a party, and watch everyone show up with their cups. LOL

You got a free to play game on the PS3 that's done better within 2 months of launch? DC Universe online. Which is an interesting example (which could shut up the OMG PUT IT ON PC crowd) as despite being available on both PC and PS3, the vast majority of players are on PS3 DCUO was not free to play within 2 months of launch. Also, please provide a source for your PS3 player counts on DCUO because I searched around a fair bit and couldn't find anywhere that could tell me even the current total playerbase, let alone the separate PS3 count.

My point is not that the numbers are great - they could be better - but they aren't anywhere near as 'dead' as some people make out. Some people seem to think that our entire player base is only 5k, which is just dumb.

My point of asking for you to name another F2P game on the PS3 that's done better within 2 months of launch is that there are no such games, so you can't possibly compare the numbers for Dust514 to anything at all.
