Seeing as how I can't seem to find any Heavy guides, I was wondering if I could get some tips for starting out with it. Also, is the Assault HMG any good? |

I haven't been a heavy since Chromosome but from what I hear the Assault HMG is just not worth it. I'd say just go with the regular HMG stack a few damage mods on there and armor tank in your low slots. Then get a logi to follow you around as you decimate. |

Yup yup, regular HMG is where it's at, burst at a stretch can work too. Heavy plays completely different from assault class. Just remember that you're not an indestructible juggernaut and use cover, shoot some baddies and take cover whilst your shield and armour regens.
A plate or two and max armour reps really help out. If you're serious about heavy go for sentinel for HMG and basic heavy suits for AV with the forge. |

Well I made a simple Heavy guide for the Corp when 1.2 came out. Didn't post it on here because everyone has their own opinions and like to yell a lot.
But anyway, here you can have it. Hope it helps! If not - well then at least you know what not to do. |

EDIT: I would also like to add that a lot of people will tell you to skill up Electronics and Engineering immediately. You don't have to do this! I have Electronics 3 and Engineering 2 and can fit everything I need on a suit - proto modules and all. Level up these skills as needed. If you're not sure if you'll be able to fit something, check out the fitting tool here. That's a pretty good guide, thanks. You should make a thread for it. |

It's totally worth getting flux grenades as well. Basic are not to bad but you'll quickly learn to love the standard flux grenades.
Also, find and befriend a logibro. Having someone repping you and throwing down the occasional hive for you really makes a world of difference. Plus both of you can farm in the points. |

That guide is quite good, but definitely grab a logibro if you can. Also, if you can persuade him to use the hives that regen both armour and ammo. Those things are awesome for any heavy.
If going the HMG route, the MH-82 is best bang-for-buck although it is not as good as the Boundless. Cover, armour repairers and flux grenades are your friends.
If going Forge, make sure you have a very good sidearm for when reds manage to get close. Assault SMG's are very, very useful with complex damage mods. |

Thanks for all the tips so far guys. What's the general opinion on reactive plates instead of armor reps? |

I don't want to say the new plates are absolutely useless because I'm sure someone has found a good use for them. However, I will say that for a heavy they are pretty unnecessary.
At the prototype level (complex module), the reactive plates give you +45 armor, 2 armor/s regen, and -4% speed. One basic armor plate and one basic armor repper will give you more armor, more regen, and less speed penalty for significantly less SP and ISK. So now imagine you have enhanced armor plates and complex armor repper. The reactive plates are just outclassed by the plate/rep combo. I would suggest sticking to them for a heavy fitting. |

Here's some good advice from me (playing as a Heavy since the closed beta). Oh and the assault HMG is quite good when you want that little bit of extra range (I prefer the Burst and normal one)
1. Don't chase enemies, you'll never catch them.
2. Wait for them to close in. Don't engage from a far.
3. Watch out crossing big, open fields or sections. Stick to walls, cover or if there's no other option, use a LAV (I use my Logistics LAV for this reason)
4. When your shields have dropped, try to recover and hide from enemy fire. Prefer using the armor as a buffer in case of tight spots.
5. Zooming in and crouching helps a lot with accuracy, aim for the head and try to strafe (even if you're slow, don't make yourself an easy target)
6. Shoot say half a second before you actually hit. The HMG spools up and when spooled up it shoots a pin-point stream.
7. When engaging other Heavies, try to surprise them or/and aim ASAP for their big, juicy heads.
8. Stay with your logibros or even better stick with your team. You're easily outnumbered or outmaneuvered.
9. Play defensive, don't go full assault, you'll rarely succeed.
10. Play your role: a bullet sponge, that can spread and lay down the enemy in cover. Actually you're just bait in most cases!
Hope these tips help and if you're in need of more tips or tricks feel free to come in the DARKSTAR ARMY channel, or simply join The Unholy Legion of DarkStar where I'm a regular squad leader. |
