I actually wanted to open up a discussion on this earlier, but with all the hate for things that go boom on here as of late, I decided to hold off. Since it's died down a bit now seems like a good time. So here goes:
As we already know, explosions kind of suck when you're on the opposing end. Even if the radius of something hits as much as your toe, you're going to get instagibbed if you're down to armor. Mass Drivers, grenades, flaylock pistols, missiles and even the forge gun.
Here's an idea- what if explosions dealt damage proportionate to the epicenter of its blast radius? The closer you are to the edge, the less damage you take. Now, keep in mind this would mean a significant buff to explosives. I'm thinking with the exception of grenades, forge guns and maybe flaylocks, everything else gets a much larger blast radius and higher base damage to compensate. You'll take much less damage overall when at the edge, but if someone hits you dead on, or with a near miss, you're going to be boned.
Anyone up for this? I especially want to hear from my fellow massholes and missile tankers on this one.
Edit: Forgot about the plasma cannon. (within good reason lol) It would be included with the buff to splash and damage. |

Sure, so long as the start of splash damage is the same damage as direct damage and the falloff is proportional to the distance from the epicenter squared. |

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. The MD would get a base 1m buff on all the variants, go back to the damage values in Chrome, but the damage would scale down the further someone is from the blast, capping at 1/4 of the base splash damage. That way the MD would be better at CC with all the variants. |

they need to be more accurate, and possibly overheat/ cooldown faster. |

This would apply to missile turrets and thus I approve. (I want a 9 man, 3 ADS team with all missiles, moving in formation firing down on people, CCP make it effective so it can happen) |

I would be fine with a damage falloff to the edge of my MD's splash but I don't agree the splash needs to be any bigger. We already are labeled as spammers the bigger splash would only make us more hated on. I was actually adapted to the nerfed MD with the "broken" splash, now I'm just another one of the "masses".
As long as a renerf to the MD does not go below it's previous nerfed form because I expect it to be renerfed any day now, no point in enjoying an alternative weapon that works because those are subject to nerf at any time; AR or GTFO. they should just get the MD renerf over with instead of dragging it out this long

what does need splash buff are missle turrets and small rails First off, I seriously doubt the MD is going to be nerfed again. They already cut down the splash and damage to the point that it's almost back to its former glory. We could use a bit more base ammo, but weapon specific secondary skills would remedy that. Dust needs a weapon like the MD to troll the hell out of zerg rushing rambo AR nerds just as much as we need the AR to be easy mode. Necessary evil and all that.
The idea is a trade off to prevent people from trying to make splash weapons part of the FotM while buffing other splash weapons that aren't up to par. An extra meter of radius on the MD wouldn't be too bad if the falloff is going to cut down to 1/4 at the edge of a blast. FotM tryhards have a harder time with the MD, real massholes are happy, and missile turrets become useful. Win, win situation, right? |

the splash of the freedom and MD operation 5 get's a bit sloppy in CQC for me, i suppose with the dmg falloff it would work out, but i fear any more "work" done on the MD as I'm content with it presently but on the the matter of small missiles yes they could use more splash, dropships just dont have any fear factor anymore like they once did before the missile nerf,
when i see a dropship, i run out in the open with a catchers mitt to mock their gunners. |
