Heard someone in a chat channel say they wanted to be able to see the ships in Eve Online from the ground. I remembered hearing this at Fan Fest as well.
Though I doubt this will ever happen - rather, they're thousands of kilometers up there so you're not going to see them anyway - I figured I'd share this awesome video with the Dusters so they can gawk in awe at just how big the damned things are.

Warp to a planet in EVE, and no matter how many km/s your ship can go, it will take some time to actually "reach" the planet's surface (at which point you will continue to fly through the surface lol).
Also, a small bit of tid, EVE ships are made from a mineral called tritanium, which explodes in atmospheric conditions, thus rendering EVE ships incapable of entering atmospheric flight. Which means they will never get close enough to the surface for Dust mercs to even see shadows of them. |

That's actually somewhat of a Myth that CCP Eterne can elaborate on. Tritanium in the raw is unstable in atmosphere but when mixed into an alloy (such as ship plating) it's a bit different.

That's not entirely true.
The superstructure of starships is made with Tritanium alloy. The metal alloy is not as reactive to oxygen as the raw mineral, but still oxidizes rapidly and can't be kept in an oxygen environment. The rest of the ship is made from steel, titanium, and various other materials and metals, many varing along racial lines. (The Amarr, for example, armour their ships with Tungsten Carbide, while the Gallente use Crystalline carbonide, a type of synthetic diamond. Minmatar use Fernite Carbide, and the Caldari use Titanium Diborite)
Frigate-sized craft and smaller can actually land and take off from planets with reasonable gravitational pull (has occurred many times in the lore), but larger craft are doomed if they start to enter atmosphere because they can't overcome the force of gravity. |

If you have an hour to kill, this is the best ship scale comparison video I've found.
