There's been a question that has been itching my mind after a couple of days ago on the 1st birthday of Foxhound Corporation...
What exactly makes our corporations different from one another? I don't mean in the structures and personalities, because of course we differ there but I mean in purpose and role? Every corporation so far is pretty much the same, compete for districts for the sake of ISK, fight competition for bragging points, get more members, become the "strongest" corporation out there, etc.
We run corporations but essentially everyone is treating them like clans...I believe we can blame this on two things: The FPS part of the game and YOU, The players.
I know what some of you are thinking...What's wrong with having a FPS clan in New Eden?
Nothing really, if you don't want to contribute but when 95%, I'm pulling this number out the ass but it sounds pretty legit, of the corporations are suited up clans, that means no one is really contributing.
A follow up question I'd imagine is, why should we contribute now? Dust 514's integration with EVE/New Eden isn't even dynamic yet(i.e. we can't really effect the Economy).
Because if we don't at least try to make it look like we'll contribute to the economy in ways other than fighting each other over districts, then isn't that pretty much slowing down the progress because CCP has to slowly change us into contributors? I would imagine that CCP would be less worried if corporations weren't simply clans looking to brag and instead were actual corporations. I'd also imagine that EVE players wouldn't be so uppity if the corporations over here weren't just clans(But then who cares about them being uppity).
But besides my half-baked theories on CCP's progress, another point I'd like to bring up is: Why?
Seriously. I came to Dust 514 for a FPS experience that shares a lot of EVE's brand of...mayhem. I wanted true business structures and corporations and alliances that protect each other's shared business interests and battles over powerful resources or strategic plans to mess with the meta economy for an entity's, or entities', benefit.
Right now, all we're doing is fighting the same wars, with different enemies, over and over again. We've had epic battles but it'll become boring soon enough...
What can we do about this?
We can actually have goals and missions for our corporations? Some corps are offering themselves as back up for indie and major corporations. Some corporations are filled with pilots and demolition experts and are looking to offer corporations with training and on-field assistance. Some corporations are purely for security and work for small time corporations who rack up a lot of ISK with districts but have a small security force. Other corporations act as loaning agents, giving loans and taking assets from those who forgot to pay back their loans. There are educational corporations(e.g. Dust University). There are intelligence corporations who work anonymously to research whatever you offer, for a price. There are corps who offer tactical knowledge. I could go on, but there are PLENTY of ways to diversify yourself and find a niche in New Eden. That's what Foxhound Corporation is trying to do and I suggest the rest of you do the same.

PIE is entirely different from a Clan as you said.
We're not out to play and be the best and brag and all that jazz we just fight for the Amarr in FW.
WE get given our goals from fleet and they tell us to go out anc win battles in the systems they are concentrating in, we do that, we get our medals, we get the hell out and do it somewhere else.
We also are starting to only fight using specific doctrines on how to attack certain enemies like tanks or shield infantry, as well as how to lock down and control objectives.
That's what I like about corps in Dust as in having these goals the whole experience is more meaningful |

And as someone looking to diversify New Eden's Dust community, I thank you.
