...they will want a smoother falloff on their laser rifle to go with it. And I think they will be a little justified...
Let me explain:
According to the weapons devblog there are a number of higher precision/range light weapons to come out...
The rail rifle, precision rifle, and the combat rifle are all eventually coming. If the AR has the shortest range of all of these, it makes me wonder where the laser rifle will sit inside of these as a class. I would hope that it is superior to the combat rifle, and can compete with the rail rifle.
Also, implementatioin of these will matter greatly. Will the AR users lose their tactical rifle when the rail rifle comes in? Will they lose the burst in exchange for the minmatar getting the combat rifle?
I can see the long range rifle of the Amarr (medium-long range weapon class) be shorter effective range than a lot of the short-medium range minmatar weapons. |

I think once they get all the weapons out they should respec, and rebalance the weapon skill tree (only).
They should make the primary skills: Each would unlock sidearms at lvl1, lights and lvl3, and heavy at lvl5. Also they would improve damage by 2% per level.
Plasma Weapon Operation Rail Weapon Operation Explosive Weapon Operation Laser Weapon Operation Projectile Weapon Operation
Secondary skills would then be the [Respective] Weapon Operation skills.
You could also have separate fitting optimization for the racial categories rather than on each weapon. This would make the optimization skills a little more broadly useful. It would also mean that a good chunk of your skills that make one particular weapon good or not good aren't solely dedicated to that particular weapon. |

Also why would the Tactical Assault Rifle disappear when the Rail Rifle comes out? The rail rifle is supposed to be more like the Breach Assault Rifle? The weapon the TAR is based off of is the Scrambler Rifle, and that's already out and the TAR is still there. Heck, the Assault Scrambler Rifle is based off the Assault Rifle yet they added it in. Weapon variants aren't going anywhere.
Did you read Poplo's post, that is how I understand for things to roll out. I think we'd both disagree with you. |

Doesn't matter if you disagree with me, I'm simply regurgitating what the devs have posted. Here is exactly how it's going to work. Gallente: Assault Rifle as we have now, the ideal assault variant. Level 4 and Proficiency 1 unlock Breach, Tactical, and Burst variants as we have now. Amarr: Scrambler Rifle, the ideal tactical variant. Level 4 and Proficiency 1 unlocks Assault, Breach, and Tactical variants (so far we only have assault variant). Caldari: Rail Rifle, similar rate of fire as the breach assault rifle but more powerful and more range (ideal breach variant). Level 4 and Proficiency 1 unlocks Assault, Tactical, and Burst variants. Minmatar: Combat Rifle, three shot burst weapon (ideal burst variant). Level 4 and Proficiency 1 unlocks Assault, Tactical, and Breach variants.
Oh so we will basically have 16 different flavors of racial assault rifles? That sounds like relevance/balancing nightmare... |

We're currently testing the Rail Rifle and Combat Rifle internally (the two missing archetypes). Within the assault rifle class the four weapon types will break down as follows:
Assault Rifle (Hybrid - Plasma) - short range Combat Rifle (Projectile - Autocannon) - short-mid range Scrambler Rifle (Laser - Pulse) - mid range Rail Rifle (Hybrid - Railgun) - long range
Keep in mind though that long range for an assault rifle is not equivalent to long range for a sniper rifle, so while they will adhere to existing category definitions don't expect massive differences in the distances between these weapons A lot of the original assault rifle variants (Breach, Burst, Tactical) were created to fill the gaps these newer weapons will fill and so mightGÇÖve felt out of place (not to mention we just plain made mistakes with some of them). The scrambler rifleGÇÖs optimal range will be increased and weGÇÖll be releasing an iteration of the Tactical Assault Rifle with a smaller clip and much wider hip-fire spread making it less effective in CQC. If that change alone does not prove enough we will walk the damage of the TAR down slowly. No big, sweeping changes this time. I have a question about the bolded part: So when the remaining two do release, will the two relevant Assault variants be removed? They won't be removed, no, but they will be tweaked slightly. The idea being that each race will have it's base variant be Assault, (Gallente) Burst (Minmatar), Breach (Caldari) or Tactical (Amarr) and then the variants are a specific race's take on the others using their own tech. So, you'd get an Assault Rail Rifle that attempts to somewhat mimic the behavior of the Gallente Assault Rifle and a Tactical Assault Rifle that attempts to mimic the Amarr Scrambler Rifle and so on.
K but my main point is that, I would hope that the tactical/breach scrambler is only outranged by the tactical breach rail rifle. The other tacticals should be a little competitive, but a plasma breach weapon that can punch competitively against the scrambler shouldn't happen IMO. |
