Is it possible to add emplacements in the form of fortified gates than can be breached with explosive to provide more access to outposts?
There are certain parts of outposts that commonly go unseen (typically adjacent to long stretches of unbroken wall) due to combat being focused at the few gates or access points. |

How about it being destructible temporary? You brake it and it gradually cures itself? The indestructibility of structures in New Eden is partly due to magical nanites being used everywhere. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Nanites
It would require special type of explosive to switch nanites off within limited area and do further structural damage... After a while neighbouring nanites fill the gap and rebuild damaged wall...
Unreal Engine naively supports destructible environment http://www.unrealengine.com/en/features/more_features/ and CCP Devs are aware of it... |

I still laugh every time I see the part of the "Biomass" outpost where there's a hole in the wall next to an open gate.
More on topic, I've never been a fan of half-assed destructible terrain (looking at battlefield 3) If there's going to be destructible terrain, it better be possible to level the entire map. Not just a specific wall that can crumble while other walls don't even get a scratch. |

I think we're a long way from that point with Dust 514.

Completely different game engine if I'm not mistaken Keith.
Destructible gates however would be completely accomplishable, have it like MAG does. Soldier walks up to gate, press and hold square for x amount of time, charge is set. Give some time to give the defender to get it off, blows up. Repairing the gate is a matter of having the current repair tool to lock onto the ruins of the old gate and repair them to full health.
On top of that, if you wanted it to make it really fancy, give the gate hit points and have the resistances chalked up high so mostly remote demolitions and tanks do damage to it.
