The "gentleman up" post has encouraged this one...
Why is there a need to be vulgar and crude? A little trash-talking is fun, but a constant stream of petty insults is just childish. I guess guys grow up with more of it than girls do (generally speaking), but that said, don't most people, regardless of gender, enjoy a mature gaming environment?
I haven't encountered this problem much, actually. Seems that most players are quite respectful.
But when you encounter someone who's being civil, give them some acknowledgement. I'm not saying some swearing isn't ok, but I am saying that a degree of civility goes a long way in encouraging more people to play and keep playing. Thoughts? |

Considering you can only be on comms with blues, or people on your team for the most part, the trash talking is really pointless.
Introduce MAG style proxy chat, now we have reasons for trash talking. |

Toxicity is a common issue in all multilayer games. Whether it's a tryhard that blames the team when they're not a team player, someone that complains about everything to the point that you wonder why they still play, or even a squeaker that acts like they just learned the F-word. The only thing you can really do if they're not directly violating the ToS is to learn how to diffuse the situation, mute them, or play in a close knit group of people that you get along with. There's always going to be a degree in ignorance in a community. Welcome to the human condition. |

Teaching mercs manners good idea old chap, if only it was more like MAG me and a fellow Englishman once had a 5 minute long polite argument at an objective about who would hack it. It was along the lines of "After you." "No by all means after you." "I wouldn't dream of it good sir after you." This went on for quite a while till some uncouth Scotsman ran in screaming about the enemy could take his life or something and stole the hack, rather unpleasant fellow by all accounts. |

Hah, a Scot you say. Perhaps he was reenacting a cetain battle at Bannockburn... but I digress.
As a decendant of former British colonists, I see no reason to throw out civility, proper syntax, punctuation, etc simply because of the inherent annonymity of online gaming. I very much appreciate proper and civil speach between two or more otherwise reasonable people.
Short of reasonable discourse, I agree with a previous poster in humbly suggesting that the mute option is your friend. |

Indeed the mute option works well but when one finds a rather impolite chap on the mic and one request humbly for said chap to buck up his ideas they have a tendency to assume one is extracting the urine to be more polite than they. Meaning that alas the mute is usually the only option for civil communications. |

Yes, Medic, it seems to me that we agree on many issues here. That said, I suggest that in microcosm, the use of the mute option in DUST514 is a sad commentary on communication at large.
Well met, brother. Perhaps we will fight side by side at some point. I hope that the opportunity presents itself. |

@ Chibi True, true. I am in your public chat, and I have had the good fortune to play with some of your corps mates. I have often found it to be the case that most folks from the UK, in general, are soft spoken and polite.
