So I'm starting to mess with the laser rifle a lot more and am trying to figure out its ranges. I'm starting to use the tactical map to place myself in the appropriate ranges with red-dots because the ADS target intel is really finnicky.
Anyway, the Training Grounds Range Chart shows that the laser rifle's optimal is 66-85m while the effective range is 89m.
My understanding is that the effective range is the point at which you do 30% of max normal damage...
It doesn't make sense nor does it seem accurate that its damage drops that fast over 4 meters. Anyone else have info? |

Heh ... I've been doing the same thing over the past few days. Messing around with the Laser, trying to see where it works, where it doesn't, and figure out the advantages and disadvantages of the thing...
So yeah, I will be watching this thread. Thanks, OP |

I know it's fun right. I really think, now with the way damage happens, there is something too engaging at that range that's outside the AR's optimals.
Players either, swap to TAC-AR, take cover and are disrupted, or try to make their way toward me. Either way, I'm really growing to like it on my amarr logi suit as it means I don't have to expose my slowness up close. |

Alright Musta Tornius helped confirm the 66m to 85m optimal range. @0m its 24%, @ ~35m its 60%, @89m its suddenly 12%.
I filed a help ticket to explain this. I was expecting a more generous effective range, but I could see there being an argument for the idea that they have a similar curve to everyone just in reverse. The effective range is on the nearside rather than the far side. |

It's always done that. Even before they changed the way weapon ranges worked.
And to be honest I don't mind. I'd rather not be shooting than doing abysmal damage. You just alert the target. |

That's actually really helpful, as somebody fairly new to this. I was sort of getting the feel of where that 'sweet spot' is the more I played, but seeing it like this is nifty. |

I added a question mark to the topic to imply that this was an inquiry. Stay tuned... I may get feedback from a GM in the future about the mechanics of how this works that I won't be able to share with the community. |
