Hey all. I love to fly and shoot things, so the Assault Dropships sounded like the perfect thing for me. While they did take me a bit to get use to flying, there are a few things that I think would make them a bit more effective
Third-Person Aiming Reticle The worst part of the aiming reticle in third-person view is that it will constantly want to re-center itself. This is good for flight, but if I'm trying to shoot at a stationary target I will have to keep adjusting over and over and over and over.. It can be quite frustrating. I suggest that the auto-centering be turned off or at least provide an option in the Settings to turn it off.
Another point about the third-person shooting is that if you are aiming downwards the target will be covered by your ship. A change to camera orientation at this point would be helpful.
Stationary Button Hold a button (L3?) to make your ship hold a stationary position. Yes, I know this can be done with skill but I don't see why a button could be used for this. There is definitely a risk of holding a steady position near enemies but it should still be an easier option for those that want it.
That's it for my suggestions on the matter, for now. I'd like to get some feedback legit feedback from you guys so that CCP may take note. Thanks guys |

Thanks guys The "hover mode" button is an idea that so many people have brought up, it's amazing how CCP hasn't even taken notice of it or decided to implement it, hopefully they will. And i think the idea of simply making the camera say... go under the ship when you look down instead of remain above the ds would be a good fix instead of re-designing the first-person view to look downward and pivot, although that would be cool too. But i have personally never had the issue of my third person riticule resetting when I'm aiming it anywhere, that only happens for my gunners when they are trying to look downwards on the side turrets. |

You say you like a mix of flying and shooting but dropships aren't primarily meant to fufill it's role as a death machine asset to the team. The Gunship or Light Aircraft might be better off for you, so I hope you have some skillpoints under your sleeves. I'm not certain if CCP will give respec when they come out, the answer is likely no. |

I've been absent from the forum for quite some time so I wasn't really aware of how much talk had been done on DS. If hover has been mentioned that much I'm sure CCP has noted it but not a high priority subject.
Nitrobeacon, I'm use to piloting attack choppers in BF3 so I'm a bit stubborn when it comes to NOT wanting to kill people with my assault ds :D I am excited to see the heavy gunships and light aircraft but we haven't heard much of anything on them yet, that's why I invested in assault ds. They have 3 guns, they should be an effective tool to kill. |

Proto-fitted pilots more than likely wont need a respec to earn these things, because it's their already skilled into many of the aircraft-oriented skills that will also benefit the modules and fits for the other light aircraft. The other, around 600K SP that it may require can be earned from saving up in-game until then. Respecs are never needed as long as the user is responsible and knows that they need to save SP in anticipation of new releases, etc.
And there's no doubt, you can use your ADS for attacks on ground units a lot, I have gone 24-0 in my best matches in an ADS with proto-accelerated missle launchers. Just be sure to have something like a fuel injector fitted into your ship as well so in-case there is a heavy AV presence, you can get out of the field, but if there isn't a heavy AV response, enjoy the fish in a barrel :P |
