The games are set in the same universe but even though both are completely different. I understand that FPS in New Eden =/= EVE FPS (@KainSpero) but if players get from one game to the other they should recognise certain special things. Despite this it should not be over complicated so that even the dumbest CoD player can learn the basics within a few minutes.
... EVE:
The Fitting System: Everything would work much easier with a fitting system like EVE. We have Low, Med, High and Rig Slots together with Hardpoints. So everyone can fit for example an Equipment instead of a Sidearm but only Logis get a bonus to it or you can fit only equipment.
Racial Preferences and Design Philosophies: Dropsuits and Vehicles in DUST should have a similar stat and slot layout as their EVE counterparts and should resemble EVE ships.
The Level and Skill System: Instead of the current system with STD, ADV and PRO should there be a Tech Level system like EVE has. The Skill system should be like EVE so that there is not only one skill path required to use an item.
Damage System: Instead of giving every weapon class a different damage against Shield and Armor each ammo should have it-¦s Thermal, EM, Kinetic and Explosive Damage Part.
Misc: Speed should decrease damage and a higher Scan Profile should mean a larger Hitbox. Shield Extenders should increase the Scan Profile. There should be Capacitors instead of Stamina and Sprinting, Jumping etc. should drain Capacitor instead.
... all the standard FPSs out there:
The Gameplay: Just all the FPS basics like controls, movement etc.
The Weapon Classes: All the Weapon Classes you find in every game like Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns etc should be available with at least one weapon per race in each class.
Destructible Environment: This might be known mostly from BF but it should still be in the game with some variations. So could small destructions be saved to the map and be there in the next battle on this map.
Proximity Chat/Noises etc. Players would hear near enemies breathing or would hear their chat. With special modules they could even see enemy squad commands.
OMS: Off Map Support might be best known from Killstreaks in CoD but it is actually nothing different than our Installations dropping and Orbital Strikes.
Weapon and Dropsuit Subsystems: There should be the ability to exchange parts of weapons and dropsuits. Higher Tech means better and more Subsystems.
Misc: Picking up ammo and weapons from fallen enemies. Feedback when Damage is taken. Different vision options like Thermal, Night etc.
This all should be in the game but there should be a lot more unique to DUST so that finally the game has a structure made of the FPS basics and all other things taken from the most known FPSs covered with a hull of EVE features and refined with things unique to DUST that have never been in any game before.
