Will 1.3 save Dust 514, or be the final nail in the coffin ?
Keep in mind that August / September is the peak time in the year for Game Releases. |

Neither. People keep saying X update will make or break Dust, yet they never have that huge an effect, or have mixed results (like Uprising). 1.3 is not a huge update anyway. |

I just saying.. If i leave after the 1.3 update, i will most likely don't come back to late November / Early December, because is lots of good games coming out in August / September / October, enough to keep me busy.
And i imagine will be the same for alot of people... Will Dust 514 survive for 3 months with a small player base, and not income? |

The final nail in the coffin was going through with release in its current state.
This version of the game has no future. The only way Dust could possibly survive is if a completely revamped and rebranded version of the game is released on the PS4. |

There are monthly updates, we won't have to wait 3 months for 1.4 to arrive. |

I said it the second they announced the release at Fanfest.
People laughed at me, called me an idiot, and look where the game is at? Terrible release, at least 6 months before the game is half good, reviewers bash the hell out of it and player retention is terrible.
I called ALL of those things out, I knew this game isn't ready and CCP are destroying their game, and nobody listened. |

It's interesting because DUST will always tempt you back, if not for the new features, then for the passive SP you've accumulated in your absense. I don't think it will die; the lowest point it'll get to is probably a subsistence where only one regional server runs.
What we expect, in the 21st century, is instant gratification. What CCP has mapped out is a slower pace, maybe the same pace EVE was developed at.
10 year plans. Slowly but surely, wins the race, right? I say no.
I say make the mistakes early, learn from them, then slowly build upon a solid foundation which the majority of the community can accept.
Closed Beta was a time for making mistakes. Not enough were made. Open Beta was the time to make the final mistakes, and rectify. They only began making mistakes then. Come Uprising, CCP has so far been too tentative with their steps to make the leaps they needed to make, the stumbles they needed to have.
Mistakes will surely be made in the future. So why not make them NOW?
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Break everything possible now, and fix it.
>However, I'm assuming that CCP aren't doing this already. Perhaps they have their own things happening behind the scenes, and they can't actually constantly reiterate the game because of some contract with Sony. If that's the case, I apologise for being presumptuous. But there you go.
tl;dr: Now is the best time to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them. |

Keep in mind that August / September is the peak time in the year for Game Releases. Dust needs no coffin, it's the game than cannot die.
As in, this game will forever be a zombie bastard step child of EVE.
Never loved by enough to sustain life, but roaming the world undead and propped up by EVE subscriptions.
1.3 could be announced as literally crap on a stick and it won't matter as CCP will let Dust moan and bump in the walls for as long as they convince themselves millions will someday want to play it. |

1.3 - No 1.4 - Maybe. I really hope this release along with tweaks in 1.3 reinvigorate the game. |

Eve subscriptions are dusts income. They could prop the game up for the years people joke about this game needing to be good. |

Yeah.... i don't think that is how it works, because if that was the case, Dust 514 will be ALOT better that it is right now. |

I think I saw somewhere that they received a huge sum of money as a grant or something. I will try to find the article. They have the money and the servers, they need time.
Edit - Here you go, they may have enough money. 500,000 * $15 + $20 million is a lot. http://techcrunch.com/2012/08/09/ccp-dust-514-funding/ |

I doubt any one patch will make or break the game unless it is something extraordinary. For the next few months you will probably find a steady trickle of players leaving the game who have been playing a while if the patches are meh! But if the game is not picking up and retaining new players to replace them then that is a problem.
What may have a significant and immediately noticeable impact is the uptake in PS4's. Not because everybody will immediately ditch their PS3's, as not all will, but because there are only so many hours in a week that casual gamers will play for. As more time is dedicated to PS4 games less time will go towards dust e.g. you have 10 hours of game time a week which is currently spent on Dust but in the future you get BF4, or any other game, and initially you just play that game and not Dust but that gradually changes to 50/50, but as new games come out on the PS4 that will probably shift away from Dust once again.
Without a reason to stay the hours played in Dust may gradually drop after the PS4 comes out. I suspect that a lot of people are now waiting for the PS4 release before they make any significant moves.
I still think that Dust has a chance of carving out a decent niche for itself. However, now that the bigger developers have started to look at persistent, long term, gaming shards be it single or multiple on consoles CCP needs to start hitting the ball out of the park. Admittedly these other company's are having their own issues but they have the ability to chuck a lot more Devs at the problem. The concern will be when the good FPS developers start getting good at creating persistent universes.
Being the first doesn't mean you get to win, especially in the console market, particulary when some of your competitors have significantly greater resources. |

General Topic Have some patience. If you don't like dust atm, then leave, play other games and come back when you like it. this is a game, if you don't enjoy playing it, this is not YOUR game. But there are many out there to pick from :D
