Perhaps not new, and certainly not my own idea (credits go to CEOPyrex in the comments of one of his video's), but I thought I'd make a detailed description of it here.
Basically, for every pub game mode (FW not included), there would be three variants; standard, advanced and prototype. In each of the variants higher tier suits would be locked from selection while you could use lower tier. For instance, when you're in an "Advanced Domination", I can call all my advanced, standard and militia level suits, but not my prototypes.
Mind that this only the general idea. It would probably be a good idea to lock out suits based on weapons as well, so I couldn't equip my Duvolle on the standard frame and still own everyone.
The main reasoning behind this is that, while this is a serious shooter, players should have fun with it. As for myself, I have the most fun when the matches are balanced. Being redlined sucks and while I don't mind redlining another team, it's pretty boring and not very satisfying. Being proto pub stomped should be a conscious choice, not random chance. Even in EVE there something like null and highsec with matching risk/rewards.
Another reason is game exploration. I think many players stick with a certain role/suit/weapon because that is the role with which they can compete. Having these game mode variants allows you to explore a new suit/weapon/vehicle against people with the same equipment.
Some examples:
- Players fresh from the academy can explore the game in a more safe manner.
- Learn to fly a dropship without worrying about prototype swarms or forge guns.
- See if the laser rifle is really ******.
So why would you fight in the advanced or prototype game modes. Because, let's be honest, seasoned veterans will still beat academy people in the standard game mode because they're familiar with squad tactics and know the maps.
Rewards: Besides the satisfaction of beating an equally fitted team? Have higher isk battle rewards in the higher tier match modes and drop more and better salvage in the prototype game modes.
That's it, have fun in the comments |

Would be impractical with only 5-6k players on at any one time. On the Oceanic servers, I find myself against the same people again and again unless I play a different game mode each time, and even then.
If people were divided like this, it'd be a ghost town down here.
Furthermore, I feel it's detrimental to the spirit of New Eden as a universe. War isn't fair. |

Bit of a chicken-egg problem, perhaps Dust would have more players if the game matching would be more balance. I think a lot of new players are quitting because of the pro pub stomping.
How is it detrimental to the spirit of New Eden? in EVE there is a distinction in security status, why not in Dust? Once out of the academy, there is only nullsec now. |

I would be fine with just having High->Low->Null secs. (Academy -> Graduate -> Soldier)
Giving players at least a little time to achieve standard quality gear would be a big help.
Graduate - Reach 750k SP or 25k WP
Soldier - Reach 2M SP or 750k WP

To be honest, New Eden and EVE aren't the same thing. There are security levels in EVE and it makes sense because the void is policed by CONCORD and such. But as mercenaries enlisted to fight war, we're beyond authorities such as those who make highsec safe.
And it is a player's common sense which prevents someone from ganking in high sec unless they also have a death wish. Matchmaking in DUST means the game divides you instead of letting the player know that it would be absolutely irrational to fight in prototype gear in public matches.
Which is why I've been advocating for an alternative solution which DOES act in such a way that makes it force players to decide on their own not to protostomp. One solution I've come up with is to up the costs of prototype and advanced gear (prototype should cost something like a fully fitted tank, advanced like a dropship). It makes sense to me; mercenaries care only about their wallets. So why is it that currently SP is the central factor for deciding to play, not making ISK and getting rich? |

Bullshit. We are still under CONCORD laws. Why do you think we got kicked out of Caldari Prime? If we didn't, some ************ would have teied to blow the damn reactors up on the Titan. Anyways, I think they should just limit PROTO gear and higher from hisec battles (like they do caps and supercaps in EVE). It would limit pubstomping without seperating the playerbase, and create more interesting battles imo (both parties knows they aren't in their best gear, so they will tey harder, use tactics, etc.).
