Oh yesssss I dumped the 12k SP into the standard Plasma cannon and ohhhh boy! Its a pretty interesting gun! So heres my overall opinion on it, and yesss while I could just say "it sucks, don't use it" I want to elaborate a little more on why it sucks, (and possibly how to make it FUN to use).
SUMMARY: THE PLASMA CANNON...... sucks. Its extremely difficult to use at all, and while it certainly is 'usable' it isn't in any way 'practical' HOWEVER I did have funnnn playing around with this thing. My best Match was 13 - 3 using a logistics suit (meaning all my kills were with the plasma express).
SO YEAH, IF YOUR NOT INTERESTED IN MY ELABORATION, FEEL FREE TO POST OR LEAVE NOW, ANY FURTHER IS JUST THE "DETAILS" TO THIS LITTLE JOURNY I HAD, AND HOW I TURNED IT INTO SOMETHING "FUN" TO USE.
1.) How it works: The plasma cannon at any level has a 1 round clip, a total of 10 shots, has extreme travel time once fired, and a hard to predict arc to the shot. This gun SHOULD NOT in ANY way be used for AV because it just does not do anywhere near enough damage. This is strictly an anti-infantry weapon despite what it was originally intended to do. In addition, the relatively "low" splash damage, coupled with the 2-3 second reload speed makes this gun very difficult to get a kill without direct hitting the enemy.
2.) In practice: You will NOT be able to snipe enemies with this gun, the arc is too weird, and the travel time is too long to catch anyone but a medium range sniper off guard (off guard as in his back is turned to you). So the only solution to this is to close the gap and get close range OR find somewhere close to enemies that has a height advantage IE: bridge or low level building.
3.) What I did to make the gun "work": Ive already posted in another thread I use but basically I use a gallente armor tanking logistics suit. It works well for me because of the triage nanohives I drop down. 2 X proto triage hives and 2 X proto gauged hives. This provides me with ample amounts of ammo, and triage to keep me stocked and alive. With over 140 HP/S regen rate (and 700 armor) its impossible for one man to kill me without first priming a grenade, or stopping to aim at the nanohives (leaving him vulnerable). I say impossible simply because I haven 't met a single person to kill me 1 v 1 (in this suit) without something cheesy happening first (like getting pegged by a sniper before hand, or them grenade spamming). Don't get me wrong, im not great at the game, but the suit is pretty damn good at tanking damage once I get the hives down.
So once I got the hives placed down I can start working on the enemy, normally they try to dodge or jump out of the way so I have to wait until they jump to try and predict where they will land. A direct hit = kill, splash damage = 3 hit kill in most cases. I managed to pull this whole technique off 13 times in the same match and that was my high point. I find that screaming "BOOM, PLASMA EXPRESS" is the best way to get kills just for the pure "Fun" you get out of killing people with this weapon. The phrase revs you up, and makes you try harder.
CONCLUSION: The plasma cannon is a FAIL weapon, At the very least it needs a larger clip size (three would be nice) OR more direct damage (like 1000 more) because otherwise its useless as an AV weapon, and its only barely sub-par as an Anti-infantry weapon if you slap the damn thing onto a 190K isk suit........ Personally I had fun using it, but only because im experienced enough to know that plasam cannons are hardly EVER used, so therefore it must **** a few people off when I kill them with it (despite them being unable to kill me with my triage nanohives) So yeah..... That's my experiances with the plasma cannon in general..... |

I've seen people fire this thing at me from range. And after I step out of the way, I cant help but admire how beautiful the projectile is. It makes me wonder if the plasma cannon was made at a Gallente entertainment factory instead of a weapons factory.
If I recall correctly, the plasma cannon is an AV weapon meant for close range targets in urban environments. But I've never used it so what do I know. meh. |

The PC is fun and difficult to use. I carry one as a fun DPS weapon. They work well in HAVs and LAVs if you can land a direct hit. Two PC rounds and a couple of av grenades will heavily damage or pop a HAV.
They work great on installations because they are not moving and trajectories can be worked out easily and deal good damage at good range. I carry an advanced with double complex damage mods and it is fun.
OSK to heavies and they work great on infantry. Just watch a door and wait. The area denial aspects are pretty good. With high ground the only problem is the speed of the projectile and the path it follows. The speed is way too slow and the arc that it takes is very difficult to work with. It seems to fly straight for a certain distance and the drop off sharply. The PC would perform better if the shot traveled twice as fast and moved straight or in a predicable arc like the MD. |

I don't understand why are you using this weapon with a logistics suit. One missed shot and you're dead unless you spam contact grenades. But lol why even use this weapon when you have core flaylock.

It's the close range AV weapon... pity then that the mid to long range AV outperform it up close.
The actual use it has is as an infantry bombardment tool and as a gambit for one-shotting a heavy or CalLogi. |

It was built with that intention.... however the designers didn't think when they decided the power output for the cannon. |

the PC would work better if it was actually good at what its supposed to do..... seriously? good damage? to what? a militia sica? I was about 100 M away from an installation and it took 7 shots to kill it...... a forge gun would have taken 3 shots, 2 if its proto. The same goes for a forge gun. I shot directly into a madrugar at 20M away from above and it did less damage then a friend of mine who was shooting his standard mass driver into it. Seriously... the gun "can" work, but its just wayyyyyy to gimmicky to consistently get results from it. Sure.... at proto levels it might be all right, but at that point you might as well use a forge gun, AV nade, or swarm launchers. All of which (aside from maybe the AV nades) do there job better then the proto version of this laughable gun...... |

The name of this suit is in my fitting list is "DERP", the original suit had swarm launchers on it. The only means of anti-infantry we had had being standard locus grenades. and your wrong when you said "one miss = dead" actually, my suit regens at 140 armor per second, so as long as i stay inside my bubble, 1 miss = reload and try again (assuming im not getting gunned down by 3 or more people). This suit isn't to be taken seriously, its meant for laughs, that's ultimately why i made it. |

IS not all bad... lol. .. well most of it.. but not all. The direct damage is huge, it kills heavies instantly, the shield damage is very useful against pesty tanks, and is an excellent suppression weapon. The biggest problem is the projectile speed, and the splash damage, which is ridiculous compare to the Flaylock pistol..
Actually is more a case of the Flaylock pistol been to OP, and not the Plasma Cannon been to UP.
Fix the projectile velocity, and increase the splash damage a LITTLE BIT, and the Plasma Cannon will be ok. |

Nahhhh increase the clip size to three and BOOM a feasible gun is born. The charge time between shots should keep it from being too much like the FP.... idk. The biggest problem with this gun in my opinion is that there are just too many alternatives that do better at what its supposed to do, and then some. 1000 damage? really? At the proto level its barely enough to three shot a SICA...... Proto level forge guns can practically one shot them, (exaggeration they actually 2 shot sicas), as can proto swarm launchers (which do 1800 damage unmodded compared to the 1100 damage of a proto PC). Basically they need either MORE UPFRONT DAMAGE!!!! or..... more dps. The DPS idea is dangerous though, because it could become just like the flaylock pistol...... |

Honestly, now i got use to it, i'm no doing to badly.. but i using the Plasma Cannon with a commando suit, and having and AR as a secondary weapon helps alot. Drop the shields with the PC and finish off people with the AR, it is literately a "Heavy Killer". My only problem is the PC as an AV, its near useless against vehicles because the projectile velocity is so slow, AKA ( Potato Thrower ). Fix the speed of the projectiles, and the PC will be a completely different weapon. |

If the Plasma trajectory was more like a RPG ( Rocket Propelled Grenade ) it will be much easier to hit LAV's.. Right now it feels like one of those T-shirts launchers that you get in football matches, and music festivals... |

Yeah but my MD does that, has faster travel time, larger blast radius, more damage per clip, and the most important part..
