Hey i think it would be a good idea to remove the skill cap that is in place, it does not need re-jigging but removing completely. For the new players the skill cap means that no matter how much they play they cannot catch up to everyone else, as the skill cap places an un-closable barrier on players.
In most games like this, in order to catch up a new player just has to play more often in the hope that they CAN catch up eventually. In Dust however, no amount of grinding can let anyone catch up. I know a lot of players (me included) hit the cap on the first day, then have to spend the rest of the week playing matches for a measely 1k sp (1.5k with boosters). But this is nothing compared to the cost of the skills themselves.
And i know there are some that would say it is there to stop people maxing out the skill tree, but with the current cap, i expect playstation 7 or 8 to be out before anyone achieves that. also within that time i expect CCP to have intorduced a whole load more skills to branch out into.
New players do not want to play a game that they have no chance what so ever of catching up on, it is pointless in some people's eyes. If the cap were to be removed it would give new players the chance to catch up, and the regular players would be more active as they would also have something to work towards.

CCP originally asked the player community if we should or shouldn't have one or not; how much SP should be earned in a week and what day it would best suit everyone to reset the cap.
The reason why the community decided to have one; was and is to make the player base relatively balanced and fair on those of us who have lives, families, jobs and other commitments. (IGÇÖm not one of the previously said; I have no life and play 24/7) If there was no skill cap like you are suggesting, everyone who didn't have any commitments and play 24/7 (like myself) would eventually gain a bucket load of SP and become able in most of the skills; all within a week!
I agree its hard for new players to rise to the same level as some of us, but frankly the majority of us who have 14 million + SP have been playing since closed beta (just over a year) and deserve that. Currently there's no real mechanic for efficient matchmaking and if one were in place people arguing about skill cap would diminish as all fights would be relatively GÇÿfair fightsGÇÖ.
If you're one of those minority of people who think they should have all skills on one character, then you haven't got the prospect of CCP's aim. Your characters should be honed to specialising into one specific field of game play. If you want to expand into other GÇÿprofessionsGÇÖ; make a new PSN account and make a new character to gain that passive SP and play it when you do skill cap on your main account. I have 4 characters; all of which I made when I first started playing, they all are now sitting at 7 million SP. |

I like the skill cap.
I haven't been playing long, three months max, and at first I did feel my basic and militia gear was a disadvantage. It didn't take long however to feel like I'd caught up enough to be competitive. Certainly by the time I'd started fitting enhanced gear on an advanced suit the gap was far less noticeable.
I rarely cap out each week so I like the fact that I'm not severely disadvantaged because I don't have the amount of spare time some other people do to play games. |

I'm a new player, and I like the skill cap. Games like these already encourage giving up your entire social life, it doesn't need any more encouragement. The skill cap is one of those things which makes me more comfortable to dive into the game.
Frankly I don't give a dying duck about catching up to people with more SP, as long as the game is fun to play. Also I really don't see why I would be at a grave disadvantage once I got the skills to get into the gear I want, and by my estimation that isn't going to take long at all. Compared to EVE, that time actually seems almost negligible. |

You hit the cap on the first day? I can't do that...I have responsibilities that I must take care of. So yes, keep the cap. At least for the working men and women of Dust. |

Besides, they're going to replace the cap with a rolling Bonus XP system that achieves the same effect without leaving you only gaining XP for a few days each week, and Active Boosters will augment that Bonus as well as your in-match gains, providing a more fair system. |

I could go for them raising the cap maybe, give us an extra 100k or so maybe. Not too hard for a casual player to knock down around 40k a night. So, that 190k may be a bit restrictive....but anything over 300-350k would probably be too loose if the intention is to try to keep everyone skilling at a similar pace.
If not an adjustment to the cap, at the very least hurry up and do something about the matchmaking. A lot of the issues people have with the skill gaps is that the top end players keep getting lumped in with the bottom end, making for some very unbalanced matches. May be a bit too simple, but it would be nice if there could at least be a hard cut off like with the Battle Academy, so we'd have 3 sections of play: <2k for academy, then another bracket in the middle, with a high-end bracket. The question would be just where should that second cutoff fall. |

Its not going to happen. CCP already put it to a public vote long ago and the vast majority agreed to the current system we have now. |

In EVE some people would need to wait passively nearly half a year to just have the ability to fly a carrier, and that's not including all the capital mods required for it. No matter how hard you play EVE or no matter how badly you want it to go faster, it won't. Quite honestly the only reason there is an active SP gain for DUST 514 was so that the target audience wouldn't have to go through that waiting.
That being said, the current SP system is fine in my eyes. Before the game was even launched CCP emphasized the ability to specialize in certain skills on different characters. They don't want you do have the ability to max out every combat related skill just because you play a lot.
Knowing CCP, they are probably giggling like children reading threads like this, and I love them for it. |

If there was no cap, most hardcore people would be over 100m sp already from playing 24/7, you really want to grind up 100m sp before they get to 150m sp ? and so on ?
I don't, i am at 18m sp right now and the diffrence between me and someone with 5m sp is my Dust Experience and 1-2 bullets extra that i can soak from your rifle in my pure infantry build, if there was no cap i would already be speccing into all vehicles and all weapons at leasure swapping on the fly what i need to take you down, right now i am limited to just being Assault specced and for the next 6 months i will still be fleshing out my Assault spec at 700-980k sp per 3% increase here and there..
Cap seems fine.

Fair points i guess. The only reason iam able to get online a lot at the mo is that Uni is finished for the summer and literally everyone has gone home for the summer (inlcuding my other half) and been in such a small town there is not much else to do.
I wouldn't mind seeing an increase in the cap though
Think the thing that is annoying me most is that im still waiting for the respec i asked for over 2 months ago :( |

About a month ago CCP posted instructions saying that if you haven't received your final respec even after meeting the deadline to file the petition, you should submit a new petition as a follow up. |

Oh that sucks about the respec!
- Did you asked for a respec through the GÇÿsupport ticketsGÇÖ or email?
- Did you submit your need for skill respec before the 31st of May? Otherwise if you asked for it after that date; you were too late to get one.

Vast majority of the beta player wich do not include most player today. Vote could be a lot different if it was submitted today. Oh and by the vast majority do you include the small amount of player who actualy come on the forum ? A few % of the player base visit the forum on a regular basis.
So those who voted and mostly a few people with multiple ALT

Most of the people playing back in closed beta were either invited through friends, interested to what CCP was trying to achieve or EVE Online players.
If there was a voting again for skill cap, the majority would push to having it removed. As most of the player base now are people who have; downloaded Dust because its free, been invited through friends requests or adolescents who don't get the reasons why these things were decided to be implemented not to mention not understand core game mechanics in general.
At that time there wasn't too many people who had alts like you say. Just there was a lot of people who generally wanted a skill cap. (myself included) |

This has been debated to death several times before but ultimately one thing remains: you really think that removing the skill cap will ever let you catch up to those already ahead of you? No. They'll just play even more and widen the gap even further.
And finally this whole nonsense will all be moot when matchmaking is put in place that actually works. |
