Thanks everyone. I thought to go heavy as a way to build an anti-armor fit based on militia heavy suit and a mix of advanced and basic modules because I save on cpu/pg by going with a light weapon. have not tested the fit i just built, but hope it works out. i do not want to invest skill points in heavy weapons or armor just 2 months into playing, so i hope this becomes a viable anti-armor fit for the next handful of months while I build up my skill tree. |

If you want to use a heavy for AV, you might as well use a forge gun or spec into commando for the reload bonus. The latter is a bit underpowered at the moment, but the devs have acknowledged the issue. |

Glad to hear that they are looking into the up commando suit. Commando is really how i want to go but the weaknesses on that suit severely out weigh the bonuses. Been meaning to post a thread on that.

I'd love the feedback.
I built a drop fit based on the militia heavy suit. I have leveled the base armor to 4 and shield to 5 at first rather than spend on any dropsuit command when I was not sure what direction i wanted to take. The 20 and 25% bonuses add a lot to the heavy suit without costing any isk.
I added an advanced shield recharger and a militia armor repair. The latter because I have been doing a lot of ambushes and am not part of a corp so I go into ambushes a fair bit with no or too few logi characters to repair my armor. i could do a basic repair but have lots of spare cpu and pg so went with the cheaper option.
The grenade slot is a basic flux grenade so I can take out tank shields. When I remember and am close enough, this has been effective because they usually don't notice the 1-2 flux grenades I drop, and I lock on while they time out, so my missiles hit them right after the shield drops. Have dropped a tank in one go this way.
heavy slot is an advanced swarm launcher and the side arm slot is a basic smg. I have not leveled the smg at all but have leveled the swarm launcher a bit so I have one more missile to fire.
So far mixed results. Some battles I have done serious damage to vehicles of all types and up close with the right team the smg and heavy armor has been pretty effective. One battle i was leader of the killboard for the first time ever because i killed 9 people (5 in vehicles and 4 close up) and took out 2 tanks and a lav. my team just barely lost so it wasn't because i was with pubstompers. That felt great.
The big minus is that I am completely useless against personel that are not short range. I have speced into the AR quite a bit and use that for my assault fit, so would prefer that but as i mentioned on another reply, I can't commit to the commando suit because of its weaknesses.
So typcially, i am a bit careful about when i use this fit. If my team is out in the open, i only use it if the team is working well together. I look at out for vehicles and attack when i can and watch out for light armor fits sneaking in with a shotgun or for up tight flanking maneuvors (if i had a mic with a corp squad i could warn the team in these cases, but since i don't i usually just try to kill them which i usually do or they run off empty handed). Sometimes I don't do much except keep drop ships at bay and watch for threats that never come, but i figure that is part of working with a team. Low WP, but whatever.
i have found the slow movement okay. not great, but acceptable. What i am shocked at is just how easily people can still tear through my armor and shields. AT times it seems as quick as my dragonfly ass suit. i imagine my dodging is less effective because i am slow and a larger target.
have not tried any of the heavy weapons yet, but i can see how they would make me more effective in mid to long ranges depending on what route i took. |

one thing i forgot to mention. The cost for this fit is pretty attractive. Somewhere in the 12-13k isk range despite not blue prints. |

Waaay too tired to give proper feedback, and given my history I won't promise it, but CCP is looking at removing turn limitation based on suit, meaning faster turn speed for us fatties ^_^ |

Wait until 1.4, they are decoupling aim sens from move speed. Should feel much better. |

The other problem I found was that i frequently still got taken down quickly. i think that is a combo of me not strafing as often because my thought process was "i'm a tank so I don't need to" and the slow movement/turn speed not allowing me to dodge as effectively when i did try.
I am fine with them decoupling the movement speed and turn speed, but I don't think all fits should have the same turn speed. just doesn't make sense (or seem fair) that a heavy could turn as quickly as a scout. all that armor has to slow down the turning, just maybe not as much as it does now.
one thing that did work well with this fit was the extra CPU gain. I was in a militia dropsuit with an advanced swarm launcher and had plenty of room to go proto on the swarm or advanced on the smg (i have don't have the skill points for either). If i went with a basic dropsuit with electronics/engineering at 3, I likely could have the majority of my modules as advanced gear despite the basic suit. with the dragonfly assult suit i got with the merc pack (what I use now for my two remaining fits), I can only get less than half my modules at advanced level. The non-sentinel basic suite would be more expensive (9k instead of 650ish) but the extra 100 hp of armor and extra slot would probably be worth it.
With all that said, I think the one person's comment "why not just use the forge gun" is likely right. I haven't tried the forge gun, but the ability to hit non vehicles would be a huge plus because then I wouldn't be limited to close up only combat against infantry. However, if i was in a squad (currently just doing random instant battle matches without being in a real corp), the watching everyone's back bit would be more effective. Despite not being part of a permanent squad or a corp that I can squad up with some people for an evening, I can see how squad composition and tactics could make a wider range of fits feasible/useful. With me lone wolfing (still playing with the team but not part of an organized squad), the AR/Flaylock assault and SWLauncher/SMG assault combo are more versatile fits. |

Started reading some of those last night. Some great stuff there. Wish I had read them earlier. Still learned a lot last night, but a fair bit of it I had to learn the hard way.

no worries. If you get some time, I'd still love the feedback. There's so many permutations for the fits without even considering how to combine them into different squads with different tactics. Getting different perspectives will help train my brain to think of new combos. But, I totally understand if you don't find the time. I find it hard enough to fit in the time to get 2/3 of my weekly skill point cap. |
