I have two solutions for this current problem.
1. Make respecs cost time. Say one SP point every second. Say this, some one selects "Perform Respec" for a skill that costs 400,000 to spec into. So in 400,000 seconds (or 4 days 15 hours 6 minutes and 40 seconds) they can then select "Confirm Respec" and get that SP back. This is similar to EVE in the sense that it takes time to get skills. This will also get past the argument that "Respecs that cost IRL money would make people pay to win".
2. Make more 3x SP events. Instead of giving back SP, let people have more every month or so. Or for every big update.
So what do you guys think?

No.
You bought the skills, you live with your choices. This is all CCP needs to say.
There is no reason to give in to peoples tears. They should simply think more about their decisions prior to buying a skill. |

People are just going to keep crying. I myself don't care for respecs. I'm just tired of people crying about it. |

I don't like the second option as it just means more grinding for something that might not be your fault.
Let's say CCP nerfs the flaylock hard. Deserved or not people have a legitimate reason to want SP spent on that skill back. It isn't really fair to ask them to have to grind for more SP when they've already done that and now have X amount wasted, where X could be in the millions of SP. It also isn't fair to tell them to put everything else they wanted on hold just because now their "main" weapon sucks so they need to spend a couple weeks upgrading another while everyone else just continues to upgrade what they want.
I don't see why it's so hard to just implement a "one respec every 4 months (or however many)" type deal that allows for stacking. If you're happy with your build, but CCP changes something enough to significantly impact performance, then you justifiably have the right to ask for the SP you spent on the better version back.
It prevents flavor of the month because you won't be getting them often enough to be able to do that and worst case scenario for people is they have to wait 4 months (or however many) to get their wasted SP back--and even then that's only if they're careless with the respecs they have stacked already. |

In New Eden all skills come full circle. The only time a respec is appropriate is when the skills themselves suffer major changes as a system. Beyond that its up to the player to spend wisely and knowingly in regards to the minor changes to any gear they want to use.
Persistence is one of the big features and draws of both Dust and Eve. This is just an extension of that. |

I just don't understand why CCP is condemning us to certain skills and refusing to let us pick what we want to do, seeing as everything isn't out yet. I like the second idea the most personally. |

People asking for respecs need to deal with it. Even if things aren't all in, you go with your choices. That's how it is in EVE so that's how it should be here. This is New Eden, your choices define what happens. If you don't have to patience to skill into something else then this isn't for you. If you want to try something new, make an alt guys. That way you won't mess up your main clone. For the people that skilled into the OP stuff. Lol sucks for you. Don't be a jerk and just use the OP stuff, if you suck that much and can only win using the OP sutff, and then complain when it get's nerfed. Tough. Go somewhere else.
This game is going to change and change. More stuff is going to be added in the future, are you people going to ask for a respec EVERYTIME something new comes in? In the beginning, EVE didn't even have battleships guys, did they get a respec when all their new stuff got added? No, they adapted and took the time to train the new stuff. And EVE takes longer to train for new stuff. Deal with your choices. Because that's how that it is. |

This "live with your choices" can be applied to everything:
CCP made the choice to release the game in a unbalanced/unfinished/whatever-you-call-it-you-get-the-picture.
By this reasoning we should be playing the same crap game?

They weren't released piecemeal either. This argument is inherently flawed. They didn't only release battleships to two races. All races got them. They need to respect after they release all the content that should have been included with the original release. After we get Amarr and Minmatar vehicles, All heavy suits, etc. then we all need to get a one time respect so we can spec into what we want.
To all people with this argument, don't compare the situation in Dust to EVE. EVE has never left a race out when new ships are released. Dust has. Therefore, this point is groundless.

Each created character should come with 1 lifetime respec, simple as that. Use it and it's gone forever. |
