What if ther was a skill to manage your slots after you reached proto level each race an suit could have different abbilities, call the skill. "DROPSUIT MANAGEMENT "
Your slots would have a percentage if you divide them from your total.
What if your race skills allowed you to do something like add five % per level towards either creating a new 25 CPU low slot
Or a grenade slot, or side arm for a logi or be able to move a slot drop high to low as a custom setting skil.
Each race would get the skills an slot percentages for new slots or only the ability to move a already existing slot
Depending on what is ideal for that race just like the racial bonuses already place.
For example
Minmatar proto assault 5 high 2 low one equipment can now have 4 high 3 low
Or logi has side arm but this slot only has its own CPU pg not that of the suit as a whole
Or something like gallente logi can custom the equipment slot to a shield slot instead
Percentages an bonuses depend on race an skill completion

Sounds somewhat similar to how T3 works in eve. So, while we'll have to wait some time for implemantation, i expect this to happen eventually. |

Only bad in the sense that fittings slots are a core element of balance and letting players mess around with them willy-nilly is almost guaranteed to be horribly broken. |

Beeing able to fine tune your fit to very specific needs is a hugely powerfull option and should therefore only be possible on special suits that are designed with this functionality and the implications therof in mind.
As i said Tech 3 ships in eve have the same basic idea (directly influencing slot layout and much more) but trade the extreme versatility by being less lowerfull than a highly specialized Tech 2 ship in it's respective niche. So, while due care has to be taken to properly balance this out, it is possible.
