Well, i've just started playing and... WAS having a good time.
I have one BIG problem with this game, and it's the difficulty. First, when you run your first 20 games or so with a new character there's no problems at all.

Then, you can choose your matches, and all hell breaks loose. I threw a granade that does 1100 damage, it's suppose to kill everything! My heavy doesn't stand a chance against that. Well, the guy stood on the blast and he's shields dissapeared. WHAT!!?

How the hell am I going to compete with that, my heavy machine gun doesn't even do damage anymore!

 Fail...

You threw a Flux grenade, which is designed to ONLY deplete shields.

Reading comprehension can get you very far in this game, you just need to master the art of pressing triangle to read an item or a skills details.

You're using a flux grenade, which damages shields but not armor (you can use it to destroy installations, though - that's a current bug).

What happened is you have accumulated enough "Lifetime WP" in order for CCP to qualify you to the pool of all experienced DUST players. These players may have a similar amount of SP as your's (I'm guessing you're around 750k or so), up to whatever the most SP currently held by a player is (I'm guessing 40M+). That's a tough crowd.

From here on, you'll have to learn how to improve your ingame tactics surrounding survivability, and your potential to contribute to your team.

I recommend heading over to the Rookie Training Grounds to learn more about the game, your dropsuit, tactics, etc. That should help!

Woah, no 40mill is way to high an estimate.

I play with someone who is 30th ish on the leaderboards for number of kills and just broke 19.5 mill today. I'd estimate player's like Lordchaos and CHICAGOCUBS Have 22-25Mill at most.

Haha, I was thinking of SVER and their 20mil+ requirement, hence why I assumed someone must have a lot of SP.

Obviously I'm not an STB member but since when do they require 20mill SP to join?

They have some great player's but there seems to be plenty that are pretty new, definitely below 20mill new.

well, i'm in deep doo then.
i havent got a chance to kill anyone with anything. i dont have a clue about which weapon i am suppose to use, and have less of an idea of the armor. right now i have spent my sp on heavy armor and a heavy machinegun. is that a playable class when facing these opponents, or should i start over and go with medium armor instead? and the main weapon, should i go with assult rifles instead? i get killed alot by those things i've noticed. and that's even in close combat with my heavy machine gun! my shields and armor gets depleted in a matter of seconds.

i'm hanging out in the back of the map, hoping for kill assists. my team gets slaughtered, and i cant do **** about it. before it was really easy, i could walk around kicking ass, and without problem getting a kd of atleast 5 to 1, sometimes 10 to one or more.

it's i ridiculous step from novice to expert, since my class might be crappy all together.

It feels really hard at the first transition, because you're learning to adjust your gameplay to all the powerful equipment.
A good thing to do is to continue spec'ing into your chosen class. Obviously you've got an idea of what you can do with a heavy, judging by your stats from pre-academy battles. Now, you have to get the modules needed to make your dropsuit more effective.

I suggest pairing up with some more experienced players who can show you the ropes.

As a merc that has just graduated to the big leagues expecting to get anywhere near 5/1 K/D will just make you depressed. Find a good corp and run with a squad is the best advice I can give you. New Eden is a harsh place and you better bring friends unless you really know what you are doing.

 Welcome to the grind fest
there are medium suits running around that have more HP and move faster than your heavy suit. These suits are caldari suits but painted yellow, if you see them you should hide. Also you threw a flux grenade its non lethal. What you should be worried about is a flux grenade and a guy running at you with a pistol, if you see that he is about to kill your heavy suit in 2 shots, its called the flaylock and it, along with explosives and a forge gun, is your worst enemy. Your HMG doesn't do damage since this is Dance Dance Revolution 514 and people just dance around dodging bullets and shooting you, and most people are shields tanks and thus your HMG only does 70% or 80% actual damage to them.
Welcome to New Eden, enjoy your stay.

EDIT: Do what the post above me says, join Dust University if you want at least one place in this fu..messed up universe that will actually make you feel like a human being.

Heavies guide to winning: run with groups, if you cant, stay near walls and corners, red berries around corner? Run back behind corner, wait, throw flux nade at ground at corner, wait for hit indicator, rush in, focus on ones with no shield, shuffle side to side(strafe) while keeping aim steady on target. Make sure you're always near corners and objects so you can run behind and quickly pop back out again. Reason?

Players will stop shooting and try and rush you and/or reload both will give you an 'first shot' advantage.

If you see a flaking opportunities, take it.

you got 16-18k yesterday due to the triple sp event. It is now over, so you will be getting regular returns on skillpoints. so 3-7k on average for awhile if no boosters.

and if you keep changing classes with your sp instead of doing a weapon and core skills, you will never truly increase your survival rate. It isn't just the suit

rule one as a heavy . we are slow instalations have higher movment speeds than us . dont go out doors thats skinnys land

rule 2 use cover . we are big get behind a corner duck in and out get behind boxes that are tall enough to hide our body but will let our gun shoot over it

rule 3 flux grenades . flux flux everywhere yes they do 1100 damage TO SHIELDS the hmg does little to shield but once you get to the soft chewy part it eats them alive

rule 4 short controlled bursts .. let off after about 2 seconds your gun will walk up on you

rule 5 the most important . you are not invincible you are not a t800 if you walk up to a group they better not see you if youre solo, better to run 2 heavys together . do not try to 1v2 or 1v3 solo have back up . you will die if you do

well, now i have made yet another class, this one is a real keeper! =) i've used ALOT of points on dropsuite upgrades, just as it is recommended in the newbie-guide.
also, i'm in dust university, it will be fun to play with a squad, just like in MAG.

even though this class is far superior to my others, this one is by far the cheapest. been buying armor and shieldupgrades, weaponupgrades and so on, and still have points left.

also, i found the cheapest, most op gun so far. those scrambler rifles. i have the first and cheapest one. raw it does somewhere around 75 per hit and you are able to shoot so fast that it looks like a smg. really. extremely good at these low costs. granted, after every enemy i kill, i also burn my hands, but it isn't such a big deal.

now i'm wondering about what kind of armor i should use. cant afford, and dont know if i want a heavy. want some good medium armor. which ones should i go for? need lots of everything and need it before i break 750k sp =)

You're #1 problem is that you aren't even in a corp.

How are you finding your squadmates? I'm assuming you aren't playing with friends, so what, are you just going in as a solo heavy? That right there is basically suicide for a new player. Get in a corp, and get in a squad and 95% of your problems will disappear.

well, dont know how to get in a corp. i'm in dust university, but this may be something else i presume. as long as i play against other new players there isn't much trouble. right now i'm staying right in between my teammates. i wont leave them, and i bet that's even more important when i step up to the hard difficulty.

still not sure about which armor i should use, but maybe there are some guides to armor around here somewhere? =)

you dont really have to make to many hard choices when your new, use milita gear and train your dropsuit upgrades.

Just play, gear is half illusion, if you play well people will sit.

If you feel blind an confused in Ambush, play Skirmish only, and defend objectives,.

I would probably end up cannon fodder, but atleast i can take down shields with ease.
