Reading over the lore I wonder alot of times what the technology level is for EVE. Sometimes it seems super advanced and other times it seems like country bumpkins designed some of their stuff.
Like Ships that can Jump without warp gates and instant across the universe split second cloning, versus things like guns which shoot bullets only out to 100 feet.
I'm writing a story and in my story the people use VR integration (that part is still unedited, so beware its alittle rough).
Story
So the question is... Does New Eden actually have true VR? How would VR differ from a Capsuleer's interface with a ship's systems? If they don't have VR, why do they not have acccess to technology that even we as humanity are moving into at a rapid pace.

well, i think ccp beat you to it when they invented sleeper technology. sleepers live in a vr world that's far better than the real eve universe.
empyrian age covers it well, as does templar one. they're like 10 dollars each on whatever website you dl them from. |

This question has been explored in the past, mostly related to how do the FTL (Faster Than Light) channels actually work in EVE's universe. One of the question was whether it is in fact some sort of VR system or a voice system like telephones or a text based communication (like the actual game).
In the lore, the FTL communication was originally developed as a text communicator, with a bandwidth large enough only for text messages to be transmitted. This was many years ago, in New Eden time. It is postulated that the communicators we are using today in New Eden is somewhat similar to what we are using today on Earth: voice and text messages (Universal Translator allows seamless communication between the different Empires) for most of the FTL long range communications (between ships, between systems, or between fighting mercenaries), with more complex multi-media available to places where access to higher bandwidths are avaliable (most likely non-FTL methods, such as inter-comm inside a space station, or surface-to-orbit channels) which can easily have high-res VR skype sessions. |

What do you think? I'm not going to read your unfinished story.
Here is an example of surface-to-orbit VR chat (most likely radio or laser based because of the noise... FTL doesn't have noise).
New Eden's technology range is as wide if not wider than ours today. There are primitive techs as well as very-high techs at the same time in the same universe. |

People in New Eden only been in space for about 400 years give or take.
FTL comms are quantum entangle and sub entangled means though Liquid Helium 4 routers similar to the implants we have in our heads now a days.
Bullets can still fly pretty far but the suit sensors are good enough to deflect anything if given enough time to calculate the best defense profile and resonance to counter the incoming round so instead of our shields taking the full brunt of a bullet they shape in such a manner to deflect the round with minimal impact on the shields. |
