So, youve got a skill that takes 1,000,000 SP to get to level five. You really need this skill but dammit all its so hard to save when theres so many tempting things you want to spend that SP on.
The idea here is that you would be able to 'deposit' SP into the skill, sort of like a lay-away system. Youve got 250,000 so you drop that into the skill and now that 750,000 SP left doesnt look so difficult to attain. You get a feeling of accomplishment that youre closer to your goal and you didnt spend the SP on something else in the meantime.
Simple concept, might not be so easy to implement but Im eager to hear what the community says to this as the idea was very popular when presented to corp-mates. |

Something like the Eve system of "training" a skill probably wouldn't be that hard to implement. In Eve you select the skill you wish to train and then your SP simply goes towards training that skill, as you accumulate SP the amount left for that skill slowly decreases. If the skill is 750,000 then the counter starts at that figure and decreases as you accumulate SP.
You could even queue skills that you wish to train, when one skill is completed you automatically begin training the next skill in the queue. |

I love the idea personally. The only game i can relate it to is God of War, I don't know if you have ever played it but it has the upgrade system were you dump the red orbs into lets say the "Blades of Chaos" and it would fill up till you didn't have anymore red orbs (A short explanation for those who have never played it)

Man, not only do I want this to be an option for Dust players, I want the damn Dust skill training system to be available to EVE pilots as well! I'd be delighted to see both models available in both games, for players to use however they'd like. |

Only if when you buy the skill you can't buy anymore till its paid. Dude gets 100000 points in ten skills? Can't open next skill level either or guys put 50000 sp in suit an walk around in proto? Lots of stipulations, then the repo men come an take saved sp like divorcees garnishing your pay cheque ? Dude you don't wanna work for free theirs enough debt in real life;) |

So we're talking of a hybrid between what EVE has and what DUST has?
You play the games, accruing SP (passive only in EVE, passive + active in DUST) and it goes into your pool of available SP.
You can spend that SP in chunks to fully buy skills, or apply X to a given skill (just like we have in EVE when we get bonus SP from things)
You have a skill que that sits between your SP income and your pool. Any SP earned gets applied to the first skill in the que. Once that skill finishes you either start filling up the next skill, or start filling up the pool again if you have no more skills in your que.
That sounds... rather awesome actually, and would be a nice change to both games. I'm all in favor of more homogenized systems between EVE and DUST.

Dude you don't wanna work for free theirs enough debt in real life;) He's not talking about gaining the skill by paying a fraction of the SP cost. He's talking about making progress toward gaining a skill (i.e. EVE skill training) rather than sitting on a pool of SP until you have enough to buy the skill outright. I like the idea of a hybrid between what we have now and the EVE style skill queue. |

how about being able to invest SP into a skill without needing all SP required for it to be unlocked. ex: levels 1,2,3 unlocked with 4 at 30k/174k SP. |

I fully support this. I can see others saying CCP shouldn't waste their time since an easy solution is to simply be patient, but we are all human and the temptations exists. A means to rid of these temptations while feeling like you are progressing would be excellent. |

I remember earlier someone also suggested making skills level 1 through 10 opposed to 1 through 5. Make it cost the same amount of SP to get to 10 as it does to get to 5 currently, and half the bonuses per level. Basically it would be the same exact thing we have now but with more intervals. |

I would love to be able to chip away at some of the more expensive skills while working on other things. Until I could get the price low enough that I can hold out and buy it outright with a week's SP. |

Love the idea. Hate the "Give back the SP I put into skill X it was an accident! I don't want to finish the skill". It'll be even worse than "My thumb/brother/cat slipped on the controller and now I want a respec!" |

Yes this training tree in eve would make life 10x more easy for everyone, Vets and new players alike. As for partial training a skill I think it's a wonderful Idea but there should be some type of a choice. I personally prefer to pool my sp just in case something comes up. or example I needed three weeks to get my proto logi but seriously wanted my proto nanohives, I calculated and took the step of getting the proto nanohives first simply because they are more productive now than that proto will be to me since I will barely use it due to the cost of it + fittings. |

I was saving SP for an advanced suit earlier today and got side tracked by another skill. When I started saving up again my SP caped and now I have to suffer the normal SP gain for the next 30 matches T_T.
This idea would've saved me!

^ This would be my dream solution, with two slight add-ons/ alterations:
+ An option to automatically apply only Passive SP or both Active and Passive SP into the selected skill. + A countdown indicator (like EVE) which tells you how long time you have left to obtain the skill level.
Personally I would prefer to put only Passive SP into my skill queue, with the active SP collecting into your pool as before. This way I could be "training" to my level 5 skill with full knowledge of the timescale (21d 10h 23m 15s), and still have the Active SP to blow in chunks on shiny cool skills, or shorten the time of my training.
