I know you all think that this kind of a bad time to think this up when CCP is having all the problems they are at the moment. But I must speak my mind. I wan't a map editor, and the ability to change suit and weapon attributes in a Arena mode. Before you say that this is a foolhardy thing that would just end up wasting CCP's time and resources, let me explain how it would work.
First, CCP would create a map editor. This would most likely be the trickiest to do. But it could just start out with CCP making a very simple map that we can walk around in, and than adding on to it. Next giving us suits and weapons that can be tweaked in all their attributes. So with suits we could change the sprint speed, how high it can jump, melee damage, all of what you would like to change. With weapons you would have an equal amount of customizability like clip size, damage, range, RoF, reload speed, etc etc.
This would not only allow players to fool around with the game, but would also give players the ability to find optimal balancing for the game on their own. It would give us a opportunity to help CCP balance out weapons. For instance, we could change how the mass driver works to maybe set it up properly. After all, it's not like the people at CCP have a huge amount of time to play DUST and find all the imbalances. Let alone know how to fix them. Especially when you have conflicting reports on the forums about what needs to be buffed and what needs to be nerfed.
I know you're all saying it would take too long to do this, but CCP must have all the tools needed to tweak and balance things on their work PC's or it would take a much longer time to put out all these updates. All they would have to do is abridge those tools so we can use them in game. You all might hate this but what if you had to pay aurum to get the arena? Would that make it more reasonable for CCP?
Please consider my proposition, It should at least be discussed. But with all that said, CCP if you read this, I'm not writing this because I think I could make the game better than you. I'm writing this because I love your game, and I want it to be awesome. So, good bye. |

Currently, CCP relies on numerical data taken from hundreds hours of public matches to gain knowledge on what modifications are needed to balance of the game. This is mostly designed to account for high player-counts and to take the human-error portion out of finding problem areas to fix, and see the impacts of said fixes. The tweaking like you suggest would be an alternate method, but would cause the mass of data to be incomprehensible if combined with the status quo method of assessment. On the plus side, this may be a good method for CCP to internally playtest proposed ideas, and prototype solutions quickly before final coding for public release.
A map-editor in New Eden proper would likely be little more than filling map sockets with Facilities of your choice, and placing Installations within Redzone boundaries. A full Far Cry-style map editor would be very useful in a holodeck-style VR training room, allowing a corp infantry officer to set map conditions to enforce certain maneuvers or doctrines on subordinates.
In short: -Halo-style match settings would muck with CCP's public testing methods, but would be very effective for their internal tests, and it could be used to prototype solutions quickly. -A full map editor probably won't see its way onto a Planetary Conquest battlefield, but an addition of a VR room would allow its inclusion. -I understand why you want this (and I would like it as well, no doubt), but I had to explain how such a thing would be impractical at this time. |
