Alright so i am fairly new at this game and am having lots of fun with it, but im curious as to what the Meta Level is for, I've heard it gives you bonuses towards rewards, and i've also heard that all it does is characterize the equipment into something like a tier? Am i hearing the right things, or am i going in the completely wrong direction? |

Meta level is just for giving the general power level of a weapon. Usually but not always higher meta level is a stronger item. They can behave differently so you can't just go by meta level when comparing stuff, but it does give you a quick way of doing comparisons which is handy. |

alright, well lets take into account the Caldari Assault C/1 series suit vs the Caldari Medium Frame C/1 suit... the Medium frame suit has a better meta level than the Assault suit, but yet the assault suit has a better recharge delay time... wouldnt you think the assault suit would have the better meta level? |

You're comparing apples to oranges though so it doesn't really work. Not only that but the suits are out of whack and need a couple of passes before they are where they should be. This game might be released but it's not even half way there yet which is a shame. |

meta is a rough approximation of how good it is. You need to look at the relevant stats to see if a meta-1 item is noticeably better than a meta-0 item. The meta level itself doesn't do anything. |

Meta level can mean the difference between something as simple as more CPU or PG. The medium suit is different than the role based assault or logi suit.
Assault and logi suit give you the bonuses of the assault or logi dropsuit skill. Other than that they are the same pretty much.
You get more slots on a proto medium but you get the role bonuses for the role based medium suit. Choose whichever gives you what you want for what you do. |

meta level of you and the enemy team supposedly contributes to how much ISK you get, but I'm not sure if it's true |

I don't think it means anything right now, because a Core Flaylock has a whopping metalevel of ....2 |

The only time meta level actually affects the game is Tech 2 BPC invention in EVE online. Other than that it's just a general reference like they've said already.
Although you are right in an indirect way since payout at the end of the match is a base amount plus the sum (or at least a percentage of the sum) of the ISK value of the enemy's gear that your team destroyed divided up by WP. I don't know how AUR items factor in but I'm sure they increase the value by some amount. At least that's how it was explained to me and I've not seen anything other than evidence to support this.
Since higher meta level almost always means higher ISK cost destroying higher meta level gear will mean more payout but it's not a factor in the calculation. |

AFAIK flaylocks are the only weapons that have messed up meta levels, they didn't attempt to do them properly, check the weapon ranges thread and you'll see that all the other weapons have got the correct meta levels. |

You cannot compare the meta level of two different item types; i.e. Caldari Medium Frame vs Caldari Assault or Flaylock vs Assault Rifle. The meta level is basically just a count of the variations for the particular item type with higher numbers generally being more advanced items of that type. Variations of an item type which are essentially the same will generally share the same meta level. |
