Background story: After the broken skills were discovered in Uprising 1.0, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and get a respec to spec out of the Minmatar assault suit (which I accidentally spec'd into from the Marketplace screen). Upon receiving my first respec, I spec'd into Caldari Assault (an absolute dream to use btw). The game started getting a little boring for me.
Over time, I noticed how nicely sniper rifles were doing again, especially after Chromosome's global base damage nerf was lifted. Talked with some friends about how nicely a Gallente Assault/Logi suit can work for a sniper, etc, and made a plan to spec into that over time. I checked the stats, and everything was working out well.
For the hell of it, I decided to ask CCP for a second respec, because doing the basic grind was a little slow for me. I no longer had much interest in running an assault suit. Here's how that went:

SP respec please.
Posted at 21.06.2013 08:51 by GM Bambi Hello,
Thank you for contacting DUST 514 Customer Support.
After checking our logs, we can confirm that you have received Skill re-spec on 28th/May/2013.
If you have any further questions or matters, please feel free to contact us again.
Kind Regards, GM Bambi
Posted at 21.06.2013 17:05 by Jathniel It was worth a try. When will I be able to get another one?
Posted at 21.06.2013 20:33 by GM Murasaki Hello again Jathniel,
Unfortunately, we are unable to perform any further Skill Points re-spec I am afraid.
Please note that this optional re-spec was offered to those players who wanted to take advantage of this one off opportunity as a one time exception. This one of a kind option, was available for a limited period of time. Please bear in mind that this is not an in game feature. For this reason, we are unable to make any exceptions.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will now close this petition, to free the slot up for you. Do not hesitate to contact us again should you require further assistance in the future.
Best regards, GM Murasaki
Meh, okay. Fair enough, right? I moved on, determined to spec into my dream sniper fit.
Oddly, enough... I still got a 2nd respec the next day. I was a lucky devil and I knew it.
The game was revived for me.
That pleasure barely lasted for over a week...
On July 2, Uprising 1.2 brought a set of new damage profiles, and there was no prior information available about this. (The dev blog is dated July 3.)
Over time, during a PC match, I noticed it was a good bit harder to down the enemy. 3 shots, 4 shots. Everything felt slightly off. Why was it taking 60 and 80% of my magazine to kill these protobears? 90% weapon effectiveness vs. shields. 10% damage off of every opening shot.
I was mortified.
Knowing I would never deliberately skill myself into a disadvantage, I opted to try for another respec thinking, "Maybe this is karma for using that respec that you shouldn't have got, but surely someone at CCP will see how this isn't fair."
Here's the result of that:
Quote:Filed at 03.07.2013 21:59 by JathnielI appreciate your prompt response. I am requesting a skill respec. The SP event is near, and I would like to be able to make the most of it. :( Posted at 04.07.2013 05:04 by JathnielWell, the truth is... I received a 2nd respec by accident... Instead of reporting it, I consumed the SP in a bad way, and broke the game for myself. :( You can check your logs and see this for yourself if you wish. I would simply like a final respec, so as to undo the damage done by the accidental 2nd respec. The game has gotten quite unbearable for me. Posted at 04.07.2013 05:06 by JathnielIt was a very big mistake on both of our parts. I was told, that I would NOT receive a 2nd respec, but I still did. I'm sorry about this. :'( Posted at 04.07.2013 14:58 by GM VegasHi, Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately we are unable to perform any further character respec because the deadline for the request was the 31st of May, as pointed out in the DEV blog http://dust514.com/news/blog/2013/05/optional-skill-respecs-available-for-a-limited-time/ and linked in the forum topic https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=77103.I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Regards, GM Vegas Posted at 04.07.2013 19:18 by JathnielWell, what I'm saying is that I received a 2nd respec by accident. Instead of reporting it, I made the mistake of using that SP. Then as of July 2, the skills I skilled into were radically changed by developers. This makes my fit miserable to use. I'm simply asking for a respec to correct the damage that I brought on myself, and that CCP enabled. The point is, I was never supposed to receive a 2nd respec to begin with. I would like one final respec to undo the damage of the 2nd one. Posted at 04.07.2013 19:20 by GM VegasHello, Thanks for your email and for providing more information. I am afraid no further respec is possible, no matter the reason. I do apologise once again for the inconvenience. Regards, GM Vegas Posted at 04.07.2013 23:10 by JathnielCCP gave me a second respec by accident. CCP did, not me. We BOTH made a big mistake here. CCP for giving me the 2nd respec, and myself for using it improperly. (Although it was not used improperly until serious game changes were made.) There is no need to apologize for an inconvenience that can be easily rectified. Continuing to play this game, is not an option for me if I can't get this fixed. Please. Respectfully.

You were lucky to have gotten a second one, when everyone else only got one (or none at all).

While the second respec was a mistake, it wasn't a mistake that hurt you at all. You "hurt" yourself with that respec. Don't try to hold CCP accountable for that.
That said, I can understand wanting a respec with the new changes. I can understand it, but I do not support it.
Use the 3x SP weekend event to spec into something else. Almost 600k SP is availble this week, and if you pop in a booster, you can get 900k. More than enough. |

How did I hurt myself with the respec? I got exactly what I wanted.
What I wanted was then changed without warning. The change hurt me. Not the respec, and not myself.
It's like the people that spec'd into skills that didn't work, in Uprising 1.0. You spec into it, and it doesn't work as intended/stated (or not at all). You should be able to undo that no?
It's not like I spec'd into something that was OP that had a due nerf coming or something (like with the tactical assault rifle).
No slack to be cut for me eh?

It was CCP's mistake, you are correct about that. But it was your fault for not being careful when you got the second respec. On top of that, what you are experiencing is probably the result of various players using the newly-added shield energizers and reactive plates which are specifically designed to boost shield recharge at the expense of reduce buffer or reduce damage received with the plates.
CCP also made it clear to you, before you received the accidental respec, that there were no more respecs coming. If I had received a second respec by accident I would have been extremely careful knowing there are no more respecs coming and since CCP is not changing their mind on this. |

Well, I can argue that I WAS careful with my second respec. lol
I knew exactly what I wanted, and there was NO going back.
I had zero "buyer's remorse", and my skills worked exactly as I intended them to.
I picked my suit, weapon, and skills. None of them, to anyone's knowledge, was under threat of nerf, major rebalancing, as far as we know. I was a dedicated sniper before Uprising, and I relished the thought in returning to that.
It just so happens, that my role was re-purposed for a purpose that I would never have spent skill points in.

lol nothing is broken.
Sniper rifles are now an anti-armor weapon, and I acutely feel that when I play, considering I'm wearing a Gal logi suit. lol
I didn't want an anti-armor weapon. I never have, and I never will. Armor isn't and never has been the major threat in this game.
I liked sniper rifles because they were perfectly effective vs. shields and armor. Now they aren't.
I would never consciously spend my SP on any anti-armor weapon beyond a grenade, and if I have no choice but to choose, I will choose anti-shields every time.
It's just annoying that as lucky as I was, and as careful as I was, I still ended up getting dealt a bad hand.
So I'm trying for a 3rd respec, because I now know the BEST way to be ABSOLUTELY safe with your SP, is to simply make sure you have Assault Infantry skills down first. Go utility role 100%, and then just save SP to only "taste test" new weapons and items.
NEVER 100% specialize into a niche role.
Niche is and always has been a bad way to go. lol |

Well ,the point is, there were no regrets until after their unannounced changes. It's my only limb, but I still think it's strong enough to stand on, no?

Well, the ticket's not closed. So I hope it all works out.
If it doesn't, then so be it. I'll just quietly take my leave.
I went through all of Chromosome dealing with sniper rifles that were weak vs. proto shield assaults/logis. I don't have the patience in me to deal with that again. Especially in light of their new equipment.
Maybe it wont be so bad if we get a anti-shield sniper rifle, but until then...... |

I don't understand. If you get a respec now, what are you going to do when 1.3 comes out? or 1.4? or the next major release? Things are going to change. I understand why you want it, but I don't agree that a respec should be given solely because of this, and I feel as though in any case where CCP provides you another respec they are doing the community a disservice, as it would be preferential and ruin the "your decisions have impact" value proposition CCP is trying to project.
In all likelihood, I feel as though balancing will happen in swings and roundabouts. At some stage in the future I'm willing to bet that in trying to balance armour tanking they go too far, making your anti armour sniper rifles far more powerful. This game is going to change, but in the worst case where you never want to snipe again, it seems to me that you're only out ~2mil SP for the weapon specialisation. The gallente logi is still a good suit, and it would be quite simple to substitute another weapon into it and remain effective. |

instead of asking for a respec that's never going to come why not ask for a damage buff for sniper rifles. it should never take that many shots to down an enemy with a sniper rifle. find out what they nurfed and request a way to fix it. give examples and go into detail like you did in your respec post, but don't ask for a respec or else every one else in the same class as you is going to ask for one and the class will be dead... even though I hate snipers ill support them |

Welcome to life. You make choices and they have consequences. Sometimes those consequences can't be forseen.
You were told there would be no more respecs and yet when you got one by accident you made the bonehead decision to use all of your points. Especially because you knew 1.2 was going to drop soon and skills could potentially change.
You messed up. Own up to it. Play some more games, earn more sp, buy more skills.
The skills will change again and you will be in the same position again before too long. Its a basic truth in MMO's. Deal with it. |
