ADV Caldari Medium, then going PRO Caldari Medium for more slots, more PG, more dmg mods.
I don't have any shields or armor whatsoever, running three 10% DMG mods, 2 CPU upgrades, SMG, Packed AV and Compact Nanohive.
Works pretty well. |

Caldari medium Assault. You may need the sidearm while you are shifting positions or if you are spotted. |

I think it helps to hear what your sniper style is first... Do you have some spots on the maps that you alwasy go to because they are 'choice' for you? And do you camp there?
Or are you more of a mobile sniper of opportunity who moves from palce to place?
I'd suggest different suits based on your playstyle. I rarely pick up an SR, but when I do I stay mobile.... scout suit for me. |

Its actually amusing now, that people are discussing the best skill progression in Assault (and Logi) suits, for an effective sniper
Hello CCP!!??
I'm actually over being frustrated by how useless the actual scout suit, intended for this role is. I'm going to use it anyway, and it feels right, but there is something seriously wrong with how CCP go about this game. Either that or its just a big gap in modules/skills since the game is still being developed.
Edit: And Delta749's note above about the insta death nature of scout suits. Really we must just be masochists at heart. |

I use the Minnie Assault. I already had it specced into from my other fits and so I decided to spec into the Sniper rifle. I also have a gallente scout specced into but I don't find it "tanky" enough for the role, and the heavy didn't have a equipment slot. I run it with a armour plate, repair module, shield extenders and damage majiggys |

Minmatar assault. More fitting capacity, 5 high slots, faster base speed, sidearm slot, inbuilt armour rep. Hands down best suit for sniping. |

I 'aim' to please.....
I'll take it in the chin because the other 75% of my time is spent sneaking up on you less aware medium suits, or the sidarm disadvantaged logis, or the 'tough' heavies that can't get away from my shotgun fast enough. |

Who said scout suits were intended for sniping? You can use whatever suit for whatever you want. |

Minmatar Logistics.
Lots of slots, fast armor and shield repair, decent sprint, good hack.
Makes for more than just a sniper. I can help my team with skills other than sniping.

Minmassault seems like the best option to me. Built in rep, all those high slots, bonus clip size for sidearms, and that speed. It allows you to run n gun or camp effectively. |

My preference is the Caldari Assault suit. I am skilled into Minmatar Assault suits, but have been using my Blood Raiders BPO for sniping.
The Commando suit looks decent for Sniping, at least in theory. (About the only thing it looks ideal for.) But I have not tried it yet, or heard reports from anyone who has tested it in the field.
Sniping is one of the few roles where any suit will work. Each one has its good points and itGÇÖs bad points. I would feel a little exposed using a suit that did not have a second weapon slot, but some are willing to take that risk for access to more equipment. I have never really gotten into stealth sniping with Scout suits, but some have good success with this approach.

Sometimes I find a sniper nest in the hills, but more often I run as a Frontline Assault using my SMG (Marksman stile), and only pull out the Sniper Riffle when there is a problem.
In a match this morning Jay Slaughter (It might have been Joe Slaughter?) was slaughtering me and my squad as we tried to hold the communication compound. So I spent the latter half of the match making Jay keep his head down, and picking off the other snipers that had joined him in the tall structure he was sniping from. (Props to Jay by the way. He was very skilled, and quick to find cover. I never did kill him, although I hit him several time.) |

Really we must just be masochists at heart. I donGÇÖt think the Sniper role was ever intended to belong to a specific suit. Also, the VeteranGÇÖs Pack comes with BPOGÇÖs for a red Assault Suit and a matching red Sniper Rifle. I think this is a good indication that CCP supports Assault Snipers.
The Scout Sniper is a different style. You are easy to one shot, so you have to move a lot so people donGÇÖt figure out where you are shooting from. They can work well for counter sniping, because Scout Suits are hard to spot. You really have to reduce your signature a lot to make it work though. The idea is that unless they have the white dot directly on you (turns red), your chevron and health bar should not display, even when you are visually within their scope. (Yes, profile dampening can effect a suitGÇÖs ability to identify you visually. This is why a good sniper has to learn to rely on his eyes and not just look for health bars.) Also, avoid the really popular sniper spots. You need to be more creative and Snipe from places other snipers will not think to look for you. Avoid silhouetting yourself, and avoid peaking around strait vertical corners (tree cancer).
Edit: Not to mention the fact that a Gallenti Scout with proper skills can see people sneaking up on them from behind without having to look around. When they increased the base passive scan range from 5m to 10m it made the Gallenti Scout bonus useful again. |

problem with that, is you need camou, i'll admit sometimes scout snipers are hard to spot for the very reasons you post here.
other times they are black on yellow and I can spot them like they were holding a shoot me sign.
if your suit matches the ground around where you are sniping it can work pretty well. |

This is a point I am always very conscious of when picking my sniping spots, even as an Assault sniper. You want the pixels behind you to be very close to the colour of your suit. For a Scout sniper it might be better to stand on a hill side in a shadow, than to find a spot with good cover that might not match your suit colour. Some moods are better than others. You might want to go Proto Scout on snow, and Proto Basic at night.
I thought using a red suit would be a problem, but my suit is a dark red and actually blends into shadows fairly well.
I think the Standard suits blend a bit better than the bright white proto suits, unless you are on snow. The Dren suits are great for hiding in the hills. |
