So I was wondering, what if there was an indicator which informs the user when the rifle is at it's peak or moderate damage potential. I believe the indicator could potentially be in the a form similar to how the overheating indicator works, but usually it's hard to focus on that indicator.
That's why I was thinking more on the lines of a sound effect to notify us of the current damage. We all know how the lav gets louder as it accelerates right, what if we had a sound similar to the Laser Rifle which obviously would have a different sound effect but keep the "Get louder as you suppress" ability still intact.
Another possible idea would be to change the size of the beam as it ramps up in damage, this could be color coded as well but I'd rather it isn't due to certain lasers are specifically certain colors e.g. Xray is red - correct me if I'm wrong
Personally out of the three options that I've displayed, I'd choose the second one - sound gets louder as damage ramps up since it doesn't impair your aim by being part of the hud like the overheating indicator.
I don't disapprove the concerns over how "under powered" the Laser Rifle is, to be honest back in chromosome I didn't mind if I got cut in half by them from tall hills. They had their weakness at close range and I frequently flanked them successfully. |

I'd quite like to see the damage of the laser rifle ramp up with heat instead of specifically time fired. The damage ramp up also needs to be quicker, imho. |

I think a visual and/or auditory cue would greatly help this weapon out (and we all know it needs some major love). Instead of changing color of the beam (which was my initial thought), CCP could change the opacity, going from nearly invisible when it's very weak to 100% opacity at maximum output. |

I think in their info the damage algorithm should be in there. I'm not willing to spec a weapon that stays at 17 damage even at proto. (I know it doesn't technically but that's what it says)
Edit: I like the color idea starts yellow ends red |

The overheat gauge IS the damage increase info. As the gun heats up it does more damage. |

Oh and I understand that the overheat gauge represents the damage increase but aiming while watching the hud is not reliable, there must be some sort of sound effect to notify the user while shooting or as Vell0cet and KOBLAKA1 are suggesting. |

The problem with the color changing is that when we get new focus crystals (ammo for lasers) the colors will be different for those.
I would like to know what the damage build up rate is. I can do the math myself if I just know what the coefficient is. |

It's only a half truth. If you let go of the trigger the damage potential goes back to base value even if you have a lot of heat on the gun. You'd need a second indicator for actual damage value. |
