But if you're new, I can only say, go armor. The Madrugar (standard armor HAV) has 3x the repping power, better active hardeners, higher damage output, accelerates faster and is overall faster than its Gunnlogi (standard shield HAV) counterpart. It's simply that armor modules are much better than shield modules.
Therefore, an I-Win button, especially when pilot suits come out. |

Personal ratings:
Dropships: Armour > Shields HAVs: Armour > Shields LAVs: Shields > Armour
Shields are fun on dropships because we can (kind of) speed tank, and outrun swarms if we see them. Problem is, once we're far enough into enemy territory to do anything useful, it's near impossible to get away from swarms. And if someone busts out a forge gun, adios.
As for HAVs, my god. 2 armour hardeners will grab you an extra 35% resistance for most of the time, and 20% resistance for your HAVs whole life, with basic module management skill. Plus, heavy armour repairers... they're incredible.
Shield tanking HAVs might be viable if you're an expert at analysing pathways, considering routes of attack and retreat, and have a good feel for controlling your tank.

Caldari HAV's are for Long range support (that's why they have low speed and Overall eHP, but higher damage potentional) And Gallente is for getting in there and ripping them a new one. Go by this, and it'll solve your problems. Also, if you see a Blaster HAV, and you're a good a ways from it, go in the opposite direction of it, and keep on laying down the fire. If he doesn't catch up to you, and hasn't lost it's reps, you should be able to kill it.

Actually, I'm not drunk, and know what I'm talking about. Ask Any EVE pilot, and they will tell you the same. Really, to make shields good, they just need to buff the passive regen by making it like it is in EVE. That will fix it.
Anyways, if it is not, then why is Caldari's favorite (and most easily fit weapons) Railguns and Missiles, both long range weapons? And why is the Falchion clearly the Best Enforcer? Because they are made for long range. I rest my case. |

Because you'll see missiles are only good up to medium range.
Fixing the passive regen will not fix shield tanking. The shield boosters need to do something like 5000hp in 5s and the active hardeners need to do something like 60% in their short activation time.
The Vayu is a joke with a range buff to blasters.
Also, range means **** if a Madrugar can cover it quickly and **** the sniping shield tank. |

Then you're clearly doing it wrong. Got a Sica, fitted it with a accelerated STD missile Launcher, and Tore apart 1 Vayu, 3 Maddy's, and a Soma. Then recalled it as I wanted to do shotty work. This is how it goes: spot the thing before it spots you, get on a good spot where you can still run away while having a shot, stay a good ways off, and start firing. Works every time Also, if they change how the passive shield regen works, If your doing it right, you wouldn't even need the booster. Why? because you would get a very high amount of Shield back from it; fitting a booster would just be overkill, and you could use the spot for something else (like since your complaining about speed, a nitro). Also, I think they should bring back the chassis, as well as the old engineering skill back, so you guys wouldn't have to put 2 PG mods just to fit a good tank. Actually, I think it would help all pilots of all levels, as it would help all of us fit of stuff easier. and I never heard anyone complain about it...... Bottom line: you're wrong, and didn't know better, and denying further would make you look stupid.
Off to play Dust o/

Sadly shield don't have much going for them right now
Armor: Armor Reps Repair More HP and over a longer period of time Much More Effective HP Naturally Faster, even with armor plates on Can easily fit Active Heat Sinks which increases overall damage over time Active Hardeners are significantly better
Shields: Resists most common AV weapons (Swarms and AV grenades) Shields Recharge naturally (though this is particularly slow with no good way to increase it enough to matter) Can more readily fit Damage Mods, which increases burst damage
An Armor HAV with a Railgun is very difficult to deal with if you're in a Shield HAV. Missiles *should* be able to take out armor but unless you really get the jump on them, your DPS wont be high enough to take him out before your defenses crumble against the railgun, and that's assuming he doesn't see you before you're in range.
In short, if you want to fight other HAVs, go armor all the way. If you are going to be facing heavier AV presence from infantry, shields will probably be a bit better for you.
As for Logi LAVs, Shield is the best.
I can't comment much on Dropships. |
