I have noticed that when any enemy infantry move onto any structure they become invisible but their marker is still visible and they can still be shot. this is only happening after the July 2nd update. I was concerned about another issue with visual range for snipers. If any enemy infantry move further around 420 yards away from me when sniping they become invisible and their icon also disappears. I'm not sure if the visual range being shortened was on purpose but I know the other issue is a bug. |

yup, I hope they fix both, I have been getting only around 20 kills per match since the visual range getting nerfed.

Not sure it's intentional. I just finished a match ( and posted this same effect) were I shot a sniper on the far side of the map on a hill, I could see his ID and chevron but guys closer and on structures did not show ID or chevron. You could argue that all three had excellent dampeners, but I was playing an ALT character and still in Academy, which makes the likelyhood of guys spending portions of their 500K of SP on suit components highly unlikely.
On my second match I was sniping from a low roof top ,3 guys rushed a turret and supply depot right below me there where no identifiers as to friendly or foe until I looked through the scope. I was pretty close , close enough to get shot and be killed .
Since I'm at it, when looking through a scope guys that run on ramps get partially submerged into the ground, until they clear the ramp area.
Hmm. could all this be new suit upgrades..... invisibility cloaks next .....ala crysis! |

When Uprising came out CCP/Shanghai switched to UnReal Engine 4 from 3.something. This gave them, and us, access to better graphics solutions. It did come at a bit of a cost in more intensive compute loads. To reduce the strain on the system they used a fairly common solution in the industry. They limited draw distance. Which means nothing more than if an object is greater than some arbitrary distance (some games might make it modifiable on a PC along with Field of View, FOV) is simply ignored. Note that the mini-map is a different process and still functions like a radar system supplied by the failing bidder to an unclear government contract.
Realize that the graphics lays down the sky box (actual sky, mountains and whatever in the distance) then objects in the field of view are drawn in up to the draw distance*. Which means things can move 10 meters in game and disappear or appear out of nowhere.
All that technical stuff is only interesting to geeks like myself but the issue here is that you cannot see the actual details at certain distances. This includes not being able to see targets unless scoped, sometimes while scoped, objects getting drawn out of sequence under certain circumstances which make them appear to be around a corner when they are not, etc. and leaves us gamers confused and hoping this is a bug and will be fixed.
It is not a bug. It is a design decision to reduce the graphics load on the PS3. On the PS4 it will be able to be extended as the graphics in that system will be about as good as a mid-range GPU is today (about I said).
Good Luck.
* technically in reverse although modern graphic systems are good at not actually forcing that requirement these days. |

They didn't switch to Unreal 4.
Also, the mountains aren't part of a skybox.
The only part that was limited was the draw distance of actors - i.e players.

Vehicles getting dropped off by RDVs do not show up at long distances. Only the RDV does. |

the main thing i'm concerned about is the people running on a ramp and then from my distance they are under it. I can see their icon but not them, I can still shoot them as well but since I have to guess where they are according to their icon it is very difficult. this is a bug. The draw distance I can understand but they should lower the graphic quality at longer range rather than make it disappear completely. well if they don't fix this stuff soon I think I'm just going to play FFXIV Beta anyway. most of my friends have quit because CCP doesn't seem to care about these kind of problems. would rather that they fix this stuff. this game has amazing potential if they do it right. |
