I can't see how this is a good idea. How about instead of taking time to re-hash the dropship into every air role that can exist eg: Transport, triage, support, gunship, assault ship, kamikaze, bomber, RDV fodder, etc.
How about instead you focus that effort on giving us WP or FIXING THE TURRET BUGS THAT HAVE BEEN BROKEN SINCE UPRISING or adding new modules (cloaking which has been written about in the vehicle dev blog years ago or fixing the aiming mechanism of ADS (Constant battle with camera resetting) or fixing first person view being worthless (Can't aim front turret, no flight instruments, etc) or fixing the DS health/resistance so it's not possible to be bloody ONE SHOT by forge guns... or fixing the RDV's so they don't constantly spawn into / ram us out of nowhere (I'm out 200+ million so far from this alone) or working on any other type of aerial vehicle (Real bombers, jets, gunships, etc) Light and Heavy, Some people don't know this. DS is a medium air vehicle despite being weaker than LAV's and only being able to use small modules.
Do any of these things but please for the of all that is good, do not add a DS bomber. |

1. WP's have been discussed and they are searching for ways to implement it without easymode exploits. 2. New modules were written off in place of core mechanic fixes. This is what the community wanted. You're welcome. 3. More core mechanics. 4. Mechanics... Potato. Forge gun damage is 100% fine. I have proposed multiple times that the issue is the infinite range it can apply its damage. This, coupled with small maps, forces you to play within range of all forges on the map at all times. HP will not save you. Looking at the kill, he was 34 meters from the forge gunner. That is a mistake of its own. 6. I highly doubt that any person would lose 200m+ from RDV's alone. This is an extreme exaggeration. My tanks cost 1.4m, and 1m of that comes from the turret alone. That's hundreds of dropships you would've lost. Also, new RDV AI is in place for the July 2nd 1.2 patch. 7. Again, no more new content until core mechanics are fixed. You're welcome.
The modules you want won't come because people want core mechanic fixes, and CCP is doing just that. CCP has also addressed the WP issue, and they want to do it the right way (remember crashing dropships for infinite repair WP's?). RDV's taking out 200m+ of your assets is an absolute lie.

On the issue of 34 meters, I notice he was doing tons of damage and so came low to let him hit me so I could gauge the actual damage. It was for science, not a mistake. And as you just said the infinite range means that hit could just as easily have hit the same spot for the same damage from a several hundred meters or more.
WP being exploited is a cop out, even the most basic implementation is no more or less exploitable than drop uplinks, which are a thousand times cheaper to use and run zero risks. Its hypocritical for them to claim this as a real. Anything hypothetically possible with a 0.5-1.5 million ISK ds could be done the same right now.
Mechanics fixes are good, I believe turret guns being able to aim properly without being snapped out of your hand and players being able to get back in a DS after being shot out of one would be mechanics (bug).
And actually I've probably lost closer to 300-400 million from RDV's alone.
Consider this. If all you did was fly, and on average every 1-4 games an RDV spawns inside of you. Ship costs 1.5 million ISK. 5-7 days a week. 3 months since uprising. Then all the months back to start of open beta before that when ships were more expensive but ADS was not out.
It's easy to lose anywhere from 10-20 million a DAY depending on how many games you're doing. How is it so hard for you to conceive that with simple addition that adds up fast?
RDV AI in the patch notes does not mention fixing THIS issue, probably only the ones like circling the ground for 3 minutes before dropping vehicles, trying to do ballet on pipes and crawl up towers. Ironically this type of bad AI ends up saving me because an RDV stuck against a wall is an RDV not flying off into the great blue yonder. Or preventing vehicle queues for the next free LAV carrying Bolas to spawn inside me a moment later. |

There was also mention of improvements to RDV AI and such, so they might be come less of an anti-air weapon. Unfortuntely, however, the filtering software at my work doesn't allow me to visit the dev blogs and the like (but I can get onto the forums, go figure.)
Also, drop-uplinks are "exploitable" in that you can throw a game by wasting all of the team's clones through suicide/respawn. Usually not the best practice. That's a mere 2000 WP for one person if no one else on the team respawns anywhere else in Ambush or 3750 in Skirmish. Neither of those is very lucky. |

I'd say I lose a dropship to an RDV about 1 in 5 matches. Considering the low WP totals gained when flying (I average around 400-700 WP a match when flying), it's rare to make over 200k ISK per match. This means, even if the only dropships I ever lost were to RDVs (in reality, it's only about 1 in 3) I would still be operating in the red.
As it stands, I've burnt through about 150 MIL ISK on dropships so far since the beginining of open beta, and I'd say at least 50 MIL ISK of that has been from RDVs... and I don't play the game nearly as much as the "regulars" do. |
