Can we have a Dev post explaining how best to utilize the search function to find threads on topics I want instead of creating new threads?
I tried using it, but it's not very clear to me and the organization of the material presented is off. I pulled some stuff from a year ago. |

Hey there Gigatron Prime,
This is definitely an area that we need to focus more on. I don't think we have any best practices on how to utilize the search function to find threads you want but I'll see if I can dig something up! The current search functionality is not adequate at all, it goes through every forum post and checks if your search input is found within the content of it, which makes it really hard if you want to find thread that contains various keywords.
There's one feature that I've been wanting to add which is the ability to tag threads with keywords that help describe the content of it. For instance, if I was describing a bug that has to do with dropship sounds, I would add these tags: Dropship, Bug, Sound. And as you are tagging your thread the forums would show you existing threads that have similar tags on them. Very much like stackoverflow.com :-)
I'll see if I can find something helpful on our current search functionality.
Thanks! Web Developer for DUST 514 - @CCP_raRaRa |

Heh, the Devs Instantly Responded to a Post about the Forums usefulness, but when there is actually Good Ideas, they just Leave the Thread Blank, leaving Us Hanging on if we have a Hope in Hell of Seeing any more Ideas coming in.

Meanwhile you can use Google to search DUST forum Enter this into Google search box:
site:forums.dust514.com search text
You can even time search the forums this way... (check Search tools or something like that in your native Google version available at the top of search results)
Use the Google CCP raRaRa...
PS There is also http://dustsearch.com/ site. Managed by EVE/DUST player Chribba/ChribbaX |
