It's the sound design. Sound design doesn't often get much attention when games are being evaluated, so I want to be one of the few to say: Keep it up. It's textured, futuristic, and all-around sexy. |

Just like a dev blog said- unlike in other games, you can tell what you're up against just by listening, and this is one of the few shooters where volume matters, because of that. |

Oh yeah, there's a ton of tell tale sounds. You mostly realise this when hacking something. Or running across an open field and hearing a weird buzzing sound. |

Agreed. Pretty good for the most part. Besides....... -The kill Oomph sound is gone. -I also prefered the Kick ball sound of the old Shotty. -The "enemy has hacked objective B " spam could use some love. Turning her down/off is something i recommend.
music also isn't to bad. I sometimes turn off all the effects and just play with the music.

Yes and yes. That last-build shotgun sounded so animal and foreign, this new one just sounds like popping a particularly bassy balloon. |

Sound and visual art is good.
I don't mind the voice for Dust (i don't think a person actually did the voice over), but I would have preferred AURA from EVE, here in Dust as well.
I would prefer a different color hue for the projectile on some weapons. (blue tint instead of orange tint for assault rifles, and maybe a more futuristic and less realistic sound for the AR).
Consider the sound changes for the Assault Rifle between Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/04/18/the-sound-design-of-mass-effect-3.aspx
The Scrambler weapon sounds for example, are perfectly futuristic and feel sci-fi. (though i'd give the scrambler weapons a green hue) The Plasma rifle (assault rifle) feels like something out of a basic modern day FPS. I think if the sound, look, and feel of the gun was different, sci-fi, and futuristic, people might even subconsciously expect it to operate differently.
ARs renamed to Plasma Rifles, and the hue color of the muzzle flash and projectile changed to more of a neon blue. Make the sound more bassy and futuristic. Dust is Sci-Fi. Why not just go all out sci-fi? |

I was under the impression that the base assault rifle was a simple projectile-based weapon, not unlike the assault rifles of the modern day. Maybe I'm getting that wrong, though. I'm probably confusing it with the upcoming Minnie AR. It would be better if they called it a plasma rifle and updated the sounds yeah, but I'm sure that'll happen when they introduce all the racial rifle variants (And the "placeholder" we all know and love is a thing of the past.). |

The number of times I've heard the 'break cloak' sound while hacking a point and turned around just in time to avoid being jumped by a respawning heavy must number in the dozens. |

The assault rifle is basically a handheld blaster. Plasma is charged (taken from bullets/shells/casings of plasma) and fired directly from the barrel. In eve, railguns use the same plasma ammunition (ie hybrid charges), except the entire charge is fired instead of just the plasma itself. In Dust, railguns are still considered hybrid weaponry, so we can be confident that both sniper rifles and railgun turrets also fire this same kind of charge, despite that the sniper rifle ammunition is described as 'flechettes.' The result is a combination of raw kinetic damage from the thing hitting you at extreme speed, plus heat damage from the plasma inside the charge. |
