You have to get someone to create their account via a unique link given to each recruiter. This is pretty bad. If I want to tell someone with a PS3 about dust, I'll say, "Hey, go download dust, its free, find it in the PS3 market!" They'll probably sit down and do it next time they're on their PS3. Giving them a link where they have to register and create their account is all kinds of inconvenience. It would be WAY BETTER to allow people to put in the link or some kind of code when they're creating their account from their PS3.
Making prospective players jump through hoops to participate in the recruitment program does not leave a good first impression. For my friend to get his recruit starter gear, he has to delete his account or start a new one (is this even possible??) just so he can log in through the link and do the process over again.

The same can be said for Eve Online since they have a similar system already in place, but no one is complaining about it. So far, you are actually the first person I have seen so far actually have a problem with this current system. That said, this may not be a big of an inconvenience as it seems. |

Having an in game system which would allow new recruits to enter the character name (or some other chosen bit of non-privet/personal data) would be ideal. While the current link system works for some, and works much like EVE most Dust players are going to be PS3 focused when dealing with Dust and quite a few don't have computers at all (I've encountered this quite a bit).
While the current system wouldn't be an issue for me personally it most certainly is less than optimal for a great many console players.

PS ~ I would not want to see the present system removed, simply improved by the addtion of another method for identifying recruits. Keep the current links but put them in an "either/or" context with some in game method, or failing in game at least "in PS3" so it's more intuitive for players who may not be PC based. |

Eve is a PC game. If you require a PC to play, the process of clicking a link on the internet is a more...logical? it would be much more simple if you simply mentioned who referred you at account creation. |

The PS3 has a browser. So it shouldn't even be a big problem for people without a PC. At least not bigger than going to some site and writing numbers down. This would probably only be a good option when you're actually recruiting friends and not random people on the internet.
Entering a character name would be one of the worst ideas. Everybody who starts playing Dust would just look up some random character name to get some free stuff. |

ps3 has a browser? didn't even know that.
Now, once you've created a dust 514 account on your PSN ID, is it even possible to "delete" that account and start over? |

I suspect Dust is similar if not identical. I have had a Dust character name get reassigned once I terminated it. But that is a character, not an account.
Need a test character? Create another PSN account. Then create a Dust character from that login.
Edit: The OP is a better idea, some code would be better than a link. Of course, we would have to go back to Chromosome before I would recommend it. :-P |

Well, that's a problem. Creating a new eve account is trivial, the account name is trivial and meaningless. Creating a new psn id is less so, and having a separate one just for dust is a hassle for reasons I shouldn't need to enumerate. |
