The biggest problem with murder taxis right now, is that in an open area, there's no way to defend yourself from them unless you're carrying AV. Even if you can dodge them three to four times, all they have to do, is curve around and try again. I've dodged a taxi for three to four minutes, but sooner or later, they'll get you by dumb luck.
The problem, is there's no way for standard infantry to really combat a murder taxis' repeat advances. I propose that rather than just doing "more damage", shooting the tires of an LAV has an effect on it's speed. LAVs could have some sort of run flat tire system that would allow them to keep moving, but shooting the tires should at least cripple their movement until they can be repaired by someone with an armor repper or something.
It wouldn't even take away the murder taxi, just ensure that they only really get one pass to make their move on someone. |

Thats not a bad suggestion. Give a new hit box on the wheel areas that slows a vehicle. |

I call them clowncars sometimes. Or warthogs. Yesterday I saw a LLAV ramming a CRU at about 60mph and then driving off into the sunset. |

I like this idea, but maybe make the tire auto-repair after 5-10 seconds due to advanced tech. This would give them a temporary speed debuff and let you make your escape while not crippling the LAV until he finds some cover to recall the LAV for a new one. |

Auto-repair would work for my idea, but my inclination towards requiring a logi repper is to continue to promote logistics having reasons for doing things. |

Most likely it would just promote people to not do anything and skip it or to just bail on the car and get another one. I find people need to be interested in something instead of having it be some mandatory annoying thing. |

With some intelligence, it's not hard to dodge an LAV. The problem for me, is in an open field, there's nothing that stops them from making a second attempt. If you can kill their momentum, grenades become easier. Heck, it could slow it enough that you could reasonably actually shoot at the driver. |

By "Open Area" do you mean in the middle of the road? That there be LAV land! stick to the area's of the map designed for infantry combat and you should be fine.

scroll down on that dev blog and it will show you a picture With arrows where infantry are intended to move around the map. Unless we start nerfing open ground and roads, no nerf to a lav will really make a difference out there. |

You're thinking WAY too small buddy. Look at an actual map, and not just a single socket they put on a map.
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=80611&find=unread
Three objectives are entirely in fully LAV-able territory. Traveling between them, there is almost no recourse for someone being attacked by a murder taxi. Even if I evade a murder taxi for three or four passes (which is common, as I am good at evading murder taxis), eventually, they catch up. Infantry has few reasonable ways to destroy an LAV, without dedicating a significant part of their fit to AV. |

I dunno about the solution to murder taxi problem, but IMHO something has to be done. I was just in a fight playing HMG heavy. Got killed 6 times, 4 of those run over by a LAV, and of those 4, 3 times just after respawn, trying to join up with the rest of the team. This is really frustrating and totally ridiculous. As a heavy, you really cannot dodge incoming LAVs, and even if there's a hill just a few meters away you just don't have enough time to climb to safety. I didn't want to switch to forge gun just to go hunt that guy in a LAV because I thought I would be much more useful to my team with HMG.
To be able to provide that kind of denial to enemy movements just by calling in a militia LAV and playing some GTA in DUST is stupendously wrong and hurts this game.

I read a thread somewhere that had the idea of making LAVs take damage every time they roadkill a merc. Heavy dropsuits will cause severe damage, mediums will cause moderate damage, and lights will cause the least damage. |

Copy & paste... Again... We could use our inertia dampeners to protect ourselves from vehicle impact. If only we could activate them at will and not during fall only. Tap X for jump, hold X for dampeners... If you are bad at predicting impact you still loose...
It would have no effect on slowly moving (compared to vehicles) mercs. Only high inertia would be dampened by it. Like we have it during free fall now.
Have you ever happened to break into pieces an "earthworm" jelly candy by holding it on one end and slapping it on the table fast? It will break at least in half. If you squeeze it slowly nothing bad will happen. But it "hardens and stiffen" upon impact.
Same for dampeners. No worry over abussing it imho...
One should not be able to move or shoot upon activating dampeners. Don't know about taking no damage from shots. But should not be invincible to melee or nova knife for sure |

Dosent want to use his forge gun when lavs are running rampent because he thinks his hmg would be more usefull .....massive f@@#king face palm. Ps your a heavy use the FREE lav to cross the vat the battlefield.

LAVs cramming themselves into tight areas near CRU,s catwalks ect. Is a problem, but they usually are not moving very fast and are an easy 90wp for anybody. LAVs doing there thing in the open and on roads is not a problem, they should even buff(fix hit detection) to the turrets to make them even more deadly out there.
This game has vehicles, they need to go somewhere. If you want to take a heavy suit stroll across the map, you are an easy hood ornament. Call in your own lav to cross the map, they are free, and pretty good now. |

LOL. No, actually it was just one LAV guy as far as I could see. I really had to make a choice whether to get a forge gun and try to hunt that single LAV, or go HMG and help my team fight a whole bunch of red infantry. Also, the fight wasn't really that far from spawn point, maybe 100-150 meters.
So, basically, there are 3 main things that bug me:
1. The game allows you to call in a (as you emphasized) free LAV, and get very easy kills by running over people wearing sci-fi power-armors that can supposedly stop AV grade weapons. I doesn't really matter whether you're a militia or proto heavy - if a LAV bumps you, you're dead. Kinda makes you wander "why the hell did I train all those skills that give me more hitpoints and used all that expensive proto stuff for protection?".
2. If a heavy player has to call in a LAV just to cross safely over a relatively short distance of open terrain, or risks being insta-murdered by some roadkill addict, then why not just rename this game to Grand Theft Dust and settle this murder taxi debate once and for all?
3. LAVs are in current metagame used primarily as murder taxis, which is (I wholeheartedly believe) not their intended purpose on the battlefield. If nothing else, this fact alone clearly indicates that something is broken with LAVs. |

Lavs arnt broken their the only vehicle that acctually stands up to av. I havent ran heavy in this build but up untill the start of uprising I went every where in my saga. Most heavys I know go every where in their lav alongside their logibros. Lavs are a heavys second best friend to logis as they move you round quickly as well as provide cover for when you do get out. Put some sp into either a methana or a saga and give it a go . It dosent matter if your going 20m or 200m your still quicker and safer in your lav . |

Everything you say is perfectly fine. This is LAV being used for it's intended purpose. Getting from A to B quickly, scouting, using your vehicle's weapons to shoot someone along the way. This is what LAV should be able to do, and do effectively. Problem is, of course, when the primary reason for LAV usage is to bump foot soldiers to gain cheap kills. So, it's not "let's call in a LAV to scout for enemy and maybe roadkill someone" , it's "let's call in a LAV to roadkill someone and maybe do some scouting". |

Use the terrain to your advantage. Hit detection is still funky at times, and a pebble can cause an LAV to drastically alter its momentum I've even done a one wheeled rear stoppie from hitting a pebble, and spun a full 540. Granted, it gave me a perfect line to try to run over this heavy who just sat there and tried to pump my car with his HMG.

I see all this "Call your own LAV. That's a perfectly fine response if there wasn't a vehicle limit. As a Forge Gunner, there have been many times I've called for my free LAV so I could try to get position on a tank or installation only to have the system tell me the my request is denied due to the vehicle quota for my team being reached.
However, I do still feel that an LAV ramming a merc should take damage equal to the merc's armor plus shield at the time of impact. |
