I got 2 things I want to talk about:
Keep in mind that I am playing caldari assault suits and most often than not using assault rifles.
1) light damage modifier. I have spent almost one hour trying to find out of there's a stacking penalty or not. Some people say there is, some people say there isn't. I have seen wikis that contradict each other. Some people say all mods have staking penalties where LDM are the only ones that don't.
SO!
1a) do LDM have a stacking penalty? 1b) explain how the penalty is calculated. Please show me a post where a DEV talks about it.
2) What is the most effective fitting start in your opinion: glass cannon (staking as many LDM as possible) or tanking (buffing up shields and armor).
2a) I personally realized that most often the not the person that start shooting first wins, assuming = gear/skill. With this preconception going glass canon would make more sense. 2b) What have you found is a most effective fit for you.
I realize that the answer to the whole post might be "depends". I know that there are other factors that would influence the fitting strat, however there are major and minor influences. If you think of a major influence, ie weapon type, explain the depends on a few scenarios.
Thanks! |

If you've come across this wiki then I'd stick with it. I've never heard anyone/where state LDMs are exempt from stacking penalties.
The wiki shows the mechanics, sorry couldn't find a dev post/blog although I did try to search it up.
I run caldari assault suits as well, and in my experiences I wasn't really successful stacking LDM's but I also tried it with <2mil SP and did not have the appropriate suits/guns to make it worth while.
Before the Raven assault BPO had any fitting requirements I would roll with 2x BPO militia shield extenders, 2x BPO militia plates and a BPO or basic AR and it was an incredibly solid free suit. Still use it as my default now and its got about 540 EHP and the rifle can be swapped out w a GEK if you prefer, not very costly either way.
I am a much bigger fan of "tanking" because that 300 shield @ std and 500+ shield @ proto level is going to regen as long as you can escape the line of fire. The effect of the LDMs isn't as sure of a thing to be applied depending on accuracy, short life span, etc. but that's just the way I see it.
I dont like to be too fancy, either, with gobs of rechargers or armor reps. i am pretty straight forward as far as wanting to keep a high level of regen-able HP and a large pool overall for survivability. Some may bash for mixing "i dont use reps/rechargers" in the same post as "survivability" but the shield regen will happen no matter what, as long as im not pullin a baby buffalo standing out in the open.
buuut once again thats just my view on the whole situation |

Thx for that wiki link I have been trying to figure out the percentages for stacking penalties for a couple days now. so happy to see someone already did the work will have to test with those numbers. Best part was I was actually close just had to tweak them a little bit more. Not sure why he went out to 6 unless there are vehicles with more than 5 slots.
Hmm need to figure out just how small my scan sig is on my scout suit.... |

The reason he went out to six is because Eve has ships with up to 8 slots, and this is just a copy/paste from the Eve info.
Your scout sig strength is 45db.
Shields are better than damage mods in nearly every case. Sometimes damage mods are better on heavies, and anything that's unlikely to take return fire much, like a sniper.

I run a sniper with damps thats more what i meant now that i know the exact penalties i can figure out what the actual sig is(not to mention the scout suit skills themselves decrease the sig) |

Ok. Keep in mind that signature damping isn't particularly important as a sniper. |

Me too...i'm a galente logi with two playstyles: Frontline support or lonewolf sniper...when i'm using my sniper fitting, i put some LDM on my Charge Sniper Rifle.... or, when i'm mad i use LDM on my frontline..
But i use the LDM because i'm a gallente, and shield extenders sometimes is useless... |

Older builds the penalty was not calculated and folks would stack 3-4 LDM on an AR and pubstomp. That has since been fixed and yes there is a stacking penalty. Using more than 2 on anything but a sniper is just silly and even on the sniper it's a tradeoff. Kill quickly and be a glass cannon for countersnipe or boost your shields to survive that first shot and then counter the counter.
Also, think about your roll. Are you run and gun frontline or healing medic? If medic, you need to stay alive and personal reppers/extenders and rechargers are a necessity. IF you're a meatshield, load up and hope your medic stays alive and next to you while you turn on the cheesegrater and shred the suits away. |
