At this point I am tempted to just come back to the game in a couple months and just spend what skill points I have gotten passively, and see what changes have been made. Other than the few CEOs who have the patience to put together a good sized company and do some PC this game is a beautiful empty shell. I really wanted to like it but at this point (3mil sp) their is literally nothing left to do. I even got a friend to play for a while, but he just found being outgunned at every turn frustrating. Ok, enough unconstructive criticism.
1) Give players more initial sp, and for all that is holy give them the option to respec their first character after a certain point. 2) Add some PVE or solo modes that involve exploration. I know the idea was to get the PVP right first, but I get to stare at the awe inspiringly large EVE universe, and experience it in a small room. 3) I also understand their will be balance issues. That is expected in a game with this kind of skill system, but you can't avoid individuals who have clocked untold hours into the game and are shooting you with Tony the mountain climbing super tank. 4) As stale as Halo, CoD, etc. are I at least had other in game options. Even if I got into a corp that was doing PC I would be doing the exact same thing only a CEO would tell me when to play instead of just clicking quick play.
I really hate to say it, because I truly was in love with the idea of fighting battles throughout the EVE universe, but the game in it's current state has gotten incredibly boring, incredibly fast. It doesn't feel like a universe spanning interactive experience. It feels empty. You have to include more than just an interesting Skill system to get people to stick to a game.

Nicely written post and I couldn't agree more this is healthy criticism and it would be easy to fix these problems.
Give all players 2 remaps Give all players 1 new remap a year
Expand the academy from 1 tier to 5 tiers Give longer playing players (say with over 10 mill sp only) a vets on match
Begin work on implementing pve and new content (this is already being done)
And this game will be a lot more enjoyable for new players and noobs |

Giving a yearly respec in this game basically means you can **** up whatever you want with your specializations and then just make it all go away with the press of a button.
It also means that balance is even harder to achieve because everyone and their mother will use their yearly respect to throw all their SP at the newest asset in the game and then throw a fit when it doesn't let them destroy everyone, and then they'll just leave until they get another respec and do the same thing over again.
Better to just emphasize being careful with your SP spending and keep the system the way it is. You might make a mistake, but that just comes with the territory. |

I very highly dislike this idea.

Krom Ganesh wrote: Allocated SP matchmaking: If you create different tiers based on how much SP a player has allocated, you run the risk of having gameplay being different at each tier. This would mean players would have to "relearn" how to play the game every time they advanced. This can be seen in the transition between our current battle academy to the main pool of players. Most players coming from battle academy note the difference in play styles between the two.
Not to mention, at least some of the tiers would be fairly empty which would cause players to become bored and leave. |

I agree with all of your points, and then I also advise you take a break.
You've given some good feedback, and you can go play minecraft or whatever other game (or go outside) while you build up SP and CCP puts your suggestions to use.
this is why passive SP is there. if you are burned out, go do something else while you cook off another couple skills, or you have enough SP to use whatever new weapon was added. There is no shame in taking a break.
you could also join a corporation, this game is much better if you have a good group of people to play with.
I also don't mean good as in skilled. Find people you like. |
