How usefull are dampners and scanner mods, it feels like there is nothing usefull for a sniper to use, I use a caldari assult proto with 3 complex dmg mods and a basic armor repair tool and 2 basic armor plates I have 1 free high slot and no nades, um thinking of putting a cpu extender and and an enhanced armor mod instead of the 2 basics, what should I put on my high slot? |

Damps can help but only from people who are close to you. Peoples scan range is only like 10m and other snipers spot you by eyeballing, not using scanners. Scanning improving modules work the same way, its only for scanning people close to you but its good to see that no one is sneaking up on you.
Personally i think its better to just go for pure armor tank and damage.

Not exactly true. If you have a low enough scan profile a person can look straight at you and not see a Chevron or Health bar unless the hit detection is activate by aiming on them. Even then, sometimes the only indication is that the white dot on your scope turns red.
I am not sure how scan profile and distance mesh to make someone invisible to your suitGÇÖs sensors, but they do. When I sniped I often relied on my eyes alone to spot targets my suit could not see. My best shot was on a target that appeared as a single pixel on a hill deep in the enemy red zone. A brown spot on a sandy hill that I knew should not be there. The white pixel in the middle of my site completely obscured it, but somehow I got a head shot. I have also seen a scout 30m from me, that did not show a Chevron or health bar when I was looking strait at him (must have been using dampeners + skill + scout suit). I was in an Assault suit.
A good sniper canGÇÖt rely on their suit sensors. If you are counter sniping, it is a lot easier if enemy snipers have to rely on their naked eye to find you. |

In EVE a shield extender would increase your signature. This is currently not the case in DUST 514, but might happen in the future.
In EVE armour repair modules have no effect on signature. Armour repair modules do not currently effect your signature in DUST 514, and I do not expect them to in the future.
Sprinting and Shooting also do not effect your signature, although they may in the future. |

Interesting.
I always thought that moving did increase scan profile and cover reduced it somehow.
The reason I say this is because I usually follow people with my sniper scope. If they are in full view I can see their chevrons no matter what they do (unless they are one of those super scouts that only show up as red dots).
When they duck behind cover, I sometimes lose them for a few seconds when it seems like they stop moving. Then I seem to pick them up again but only once they are moving again.
Is this incorrect? Is this due to some of the equipment they are carrying?
Then there are other times that I can pick up people up when they are behind full cover and stone still, so I'm not sure what the deal is. |
