I'm wondering if the shotgunners are even using them, or if speed > stealth this build? |

Untill cloaks come out and more start using active scanners I wouldn't bother with them you have more then enough damping from just being a scout (I assume you mean shotty scout) |

I don't have my scout suit skills maximized... so I'm running a cheap one.
Depending on the map I'm often sniping on the red end of the battlefield and/or hacking CRUs and such. I suppose camping behind the redline or roasting marshmallows in the MCC it wouldn't matter as much.
It doesn't seem to keep the murder taxis off my back as they spot me physically when they get close. |

Yeah, I've skilled up into the proto-scanner, but basically have no corp right now. So I can see stuff up to 200 m that's 28 dB in profile (but just for a second or two), I can also have the option of the one that lasts for like 15+seconds at 100m. Its kind of nice, but not having a reliable squad makes their utility a little more like a liability as you can't whip out your weapon right away.
However, the times where I have found a decent squad (and the whole scanning/radar UI isn't bugged for the match) they seem to make a huge difference.
I really think the infantry-meta could eventually be...

I can't believe they are still okay with MCC sniping? |

You can only mcc snipe when shields are down, and as a sniper who dosn't approve of it, loves when the enemy does, besause of all the asy kills. |

I wish they'd get rid of it... I often waste ammo pinging these tools with a shot to the head before jumping out.
Back to the topic... I haven't used a scanner but I could see it being valuable when trying to take an objective and wondering how many red dots are skulking around. I'll have to give it a try. |

i prefer speed and stamina over dampening, but i use knives and a proto minnie scout. My speed/stamina is insane with complex mods. since i dont use firearms my profile stays low moreso than not, i have leveled the dampening just for a slight passive boost but i rarely get seen. I am curious if holding a charge in your knife rasies your profile though, hmmmmmm. |

They have said that no part of your profile score is determined by any actions, just modules/skills/dropsuit rating. |

The T3 Quantum is great. 2 second 60-¦ scan up to 100m. Will flag those it scans onto team radar and HUD for 15 seconds. Has 36dB scan precision.
For reference scouts are at default 45 scan profile, mediums at 50, heavies 65. If scan precision is lower than the profile of what is being scanned it will successfully detect it. Even if it doesn't you'll receive the notification 'Some Margin of Error', won't pick up the person in the dampened suit but you will know they exist somewhere within the scanned area. Even if it fails the fact it informs you of such means you're still getting intel. |

I've been running a shotgun build with the advanced gallente light suit, both with profile dampeners and I occasionally toss in the active scanner.
Combined with increased scan radius, I find the dampener to be very useful - often I confuse the **** out of enemies with poor scan capabilities, getting the flank on them pretty easily. I also have found the active scanner to be very useful. Sneak around to the side, scan the whole enemy team, and watch as my team picks them off. :)
Can't snipers just shoot the MCC snipers back? And imagine the situation in which one couldn't fire from the MCC. Last week I was playing a pub. skirmish, and the enemy team set up a wall of HAVs with logi LAVs repairing. The only way (even though we failed horribly) to push back would be to fight from the MCC before dropping out. Otherwise, one would land and get a face full of railgun. |

The price is too high... either put in some places for people to get cover or simply let them die a lot -- hey, sometimes **** happens. |

As of right now profile dampeners are useless and a waste of SP until they fix it...in chromosome they were worth it but because everyone has a 10m radius, which is essentially the first small circle on your mini-map. I just learned about this the other day from my corp members..I was all about using the dampener..thought it made a big difference. Turns out I was wrong, and it was the speed mods that made a difference (Caldari Logi Shotty). If youre a shot gunner, since the range that your enemy can see you on their mini map is when youre within 10m (first small circle) by that time your close enough to kill them anyways.
The speed mods are what make you evasive and stealthy. Its the ability to move around the map quickly that gives you the upper hand. As soon as you break the enemy's line of sight with terrain or walls, you become invisible on the radar again. And those speed mods allow you get behind that wall or building much quicker. Thus, allowing you to make a new stealthy approach on an enemy or group of enemies because you've removed yourself from their radar as a result of breaking their line of sight.
Thankfully i only leveled dampening to 3..but to those of you who have dumped sp into it and have it at 5..i feel bad for you. Thankfully my corp members educated me because I was about to get it to lvl 5 too lol. Nobody really uses active scanners in PC matches either...those equipment slots are usually filled up with Hives/Rep tools/uplinks...so you dont have to worry about them. And in pubs...its not like all 16 people on the other team are in the same corp so if you get scanned its not the end of the world. Besides, even though they know where you are on the radar...they still have to be able to aim to kill you.
Hope this helps |

No its partially a trouble shooting thing. I'm starting to use a proto active scanner, and I'm really thinking the fact that I'll find anyone below the 28 dB that proto-scanners can 'see' will be rare. Also, when I scan in the direction of known, in-range targets and get a 'no scanning error' message I'm confused. |
