I really like this section of the forums, it lets me be a bit creative with suggestions and Ideas and what not even though I know they'll never be implemented.
However on of the think in Dust that Im very passionate about is Factional Warfare and improving the experience so it means something not just of the merc's but also for the EVE pilots as well (me being both a capsuleer and a merc).
One of my thoughts on the matter was altering the way FW matches are generated to match how complexes spawn and de spawn.
So basically for those who don't know Factional Warfare in EVE is something you sign up to individually or at a corp level and its something that once you do you cannot run from it. A player signs up for a militia for his or her faction and is then able to find the complexes that activate the plexing or deplexing of systems for your faction.
In Dust one of the issues that we FWers face is a lack of FW matches all at one time and the capacity to really co-ordinate and see our actions in a wider sense is limited.
My suggestion to this would be to apply so EVE side mechanics to Dust's factional Warfare to improve our experience.
1- In EVE there is a menu that shows us the status of systems, how secure they are, and what out factions influence is. In Dust we have the star map which provides very limited information to us mercs and for most players they don't even understand what is going on besides either Dust mercs are winning X amount or the total war effort in doing X to system Y.
What would be nice to see is the T value status of systems, status or core military comlplexes, and or any complexes active in system, or perhaps even the stats of what is happening in system i.e- the benefits to EVE players who are aligned to the owning factions militia, and then the bonuses we as Dust mercs get if we choose to be in system.
2- Generation of FW matches like complexes in EVE, where each system is generating a number of matches that stay spawned until completed though never totalling above five or so per system, re spawning after X amount of time has passed. FW matches are selected from a star map window which allows mercs to select the system they want to run Dust Complexes in, thus allowing mercs to choose the systems friendlies EVE pilots want to complex in that the dust bonus is applied to allowing us to soften up the system prior to fleet ops, or battle over key systems like Arzad and Asgherd while our EVE buddies do the same, this way OB pilots can hang around over the planets they KNOW matches will be on instead of trailing after dust matches in dangerous systems.
3- Complexes Dust side. Small complexes being Ambushes, Mediums being Skirmishes and Dominations, and Large being Skirmish 1.0. Which have X constantly activating and de spawning after completion like in EVE, corps can stack such matches in systems they need to win thus actively allowing FW corps to influence where the Dust bonuses are more present and creating war zones for the reall mercantile corps to be hired into.
4- An LP store which is affected by how players do in matches, by participating in FW matches (corps and players who signed up to fight) gain access to that racial groups LP store which uses accrued Loyalty Points to buy racially aligned skill books, vehicles, dropsuits, weapons, and other vanity items, or modules which are similar to faction/ Tech 2 gear. Thus incentive to be into FW.4
5- To balance his aspect out and ensure FW retains its sense of loyalty and dedication, corps and players have to sign up to a specific factions militia which allows them to participate in FW matches for that group and NO OTHER (yes you freedom loving FPSers Factional Warfare is about ******* loyalty to a group) which means FW matches and LP rewards come from that faction they signed on for. HOWEVER perhaps a mechanic to allow corps to defect or re align every X number of days (21-30 days) so we don't have faction hopping
We just some ideas but this would be my two cents on the issue. Love FW, want to see it grow and develop to the point where we as mercs can co-ordinate with EVE friendlies, support the complexing action with bonues and have them inclined to support us with OB's, where people get special rewards for being loyal to a faction they like and getting ready for the PC aspect which is sure to broaden out at some point.

My thoughts are that all of these ideas are good and that you have a +1. I particularly would like to see more of a sense of purpose in doing FW matches. |

So would I. We still need to duel (this being Soren) I finally hit T2 guns but if were doing T1 frigates stick with the cheap crap |

I'm writing up more stuff on FW atm, it's about 3 posts long so far. I'll drop it in here when it's done. |

An Example of what I mean to say in a possible iteration of FW where these aspects are present is.
Lets say I have set up an Amarr Facional Warfare corporation called "FoxyEmpress INC" and we have a small EVE side capsuleer following of 25 or so people from around the world.
25 people isn't that many but we want to make a difference in Factional Warfare because we believe in "FoxyEmpress INC" and want to help out another bunch of guy in a friendly corp. However what we do have is about 50 players who play dust aligned with us.
To maximise potential ability to capture complexes in non friendly systems we set our Dust Side mercs to attacks complexes on planets in Arzad, Ashgerd, and Tararan, because we know those are systems that are often fought over by the Minnies and Amarr fleets.
For a week we have our mercs running FW matches in such systems and win most of then switching the Dust Side benefits for Amarrian FW complexers to a -15% time reduction on complexing in those systems.
Now even with our small 25 man corp we are able to efficiently rush through the systems with a "FoxyEmpressINC" fleet and effectively overwhelm the small scattered resistance that is normally present in those systems, quickly complexing and capturing them. Meanwhile our Dust mercs are still working on the ground to ensure the benefits stay positive and an entire fleets worth of friendly ships is working to provide orbtal support for the ground teams.
Not only have you completed and entire ground invasion and subsequent defence of the system, but you have invaded the system from space and possibly should the system have stations in it established a defensive stand point for future FW operations.
Even more so than that now Dust side players can look at various windows of information about how stable the system is, what benefits taking the system has gotten them, how much activity or ISK has been spent in the last 24 hours. Also all involved parties have been earning loyalty points to spend at faction LP stores which cements the feeling of having earned and achieved something. |
