Newb Guide to SMG GÇ£ReviesedGÇ¥ If youGÇÖre looking for a fun entertaining build that will **** shield tanking protos off then this is a build for you. But before you start down this path I have some advice to give you. DONGÇÖT CHOICE A PATH YET! The reason I say this is because a ton of people will pick a path only to realize that is not for them after wasting skill points. Best thing for you to do before specializing is to go through the academy without investing any points or buying anything at all. Play with each suit they give you watch others play see which one you like. This will help you out in the long run not only are you better informed from the matches but also have built up a large wallet and SP pool. When I left the academy I had roughly 650,000 to 700,000 SP and close to 3 million ISK ready to start my career. The smarter you play the better you will become. Now with that being said letGÇÖs get into the Submachine Gun/Flux Grenade/Scout build. First this build is not for someone who what to charge into battle. ItGÇÖs for someone who wants to sneak around the battle field offing every player who doesnGÇÖt know how to check his 6. The sheer entertainment of killing someone like this is more than enough to bring a smile to your face and maybe a couple of thrown controllers from the dead. The core of this build is the SMG/Flux combo, you use a flux grenade to remove there shield and the SMG to eat there armor away to nothing. The reason this working is right now the majority of player are shield tanks. One flux grenade and that Proto wearing Assault suit is now a shield less body of aluminum foil wrapped armor begging to be shot. Let look at what it will take to get you going.
Dropsuit: Minmatar Light Frame M/1-Series Light Weapon Slot: M512-A Submachine Gun Sidearm Slot: M512-A Submachine Gun High Slot: Basic Shield Extender, Basic Shield Extender Low Slot: Basic Armor Repairer, Militia Kinetic Catalyzer Grenade: Flux Grenade
Total SP cost: 677,800 Suit Build Cost: 24,900
LetGÇÖs break this down by slotsGǪ.
Minmatar Light Frame M/1-Series, great suit for anyone who is trying to go scout. It is the advanced BASIC version of the light frame. With this you get two high slots, two low slots, and one equipment slot, plus the standard Light Weapon/Sidearm/Grenade slots. Some of you might want to instead go right into the scout suits instead while you can do this I wouldnGÇÖt recommend it. You wonGÇÖt be able to get into the advanced version of the scout suit without sacrificing on something else. ItGÇÖs just not worth it yet. Now letGÇÖs look at the thing that will earn us our income.
The M512-A Submachine Gun this thing is amazing it tears threw armor like itGÇÖs not even there. Its deal 24.1 DMG, 1000.0 ROF, 52.3 Accuracy, clip size of 80, max ammo of 480, and a reload time of 3 sec. Now if you havenGÇÖt really shot a SMG before it might sound like you just doing a ton of damage but youGÇÖre not. This weapon sprays bullets everywhere, to make this weapon great you need to put points into Submachine Gun Sharpshooter. This will shrink your shot group down a lot and make this weapon great. Some of you might be wondering why you have two of them on the same suit. This is because it is quicker to switch weapons then it is to reload although not by much. Also why waste points in another weapon when those points can go towards making your defense or offensive abilities better?
Our next item is the Flux Grenade without this little beauty we would have to shoot threw shields and who really wants to do that? The basic version of this is enough most of the time to remove their entire shields and then move in and mow them down. One word of advice learn to cook of the grenades before throwing them, nothing worse than throwing a grenade only to have them move out of the area before it goes off. Take some time to practice with them until you have it down. Now letGÇÖs look at our defensive modules.
First off we got the two Basic Shield Extenders taking up both our high slot. These things are great for quick movers; unlike the Armor Plates these have not movement penalties. But there is a price for that; Armor Plates give more HP than Shield Extenders. With this build speed is our tank. We need our agility to dodge rounds and out maneuver our slower enemy.
Next item is the Armor Repair Module this doesnGÇÖt do much for use during the fight but after it will bring us back up to fighting strength again. After every kill you need to look at your health and see if you are keep fighting or find a place to hide while your shields recharge and your armor slowly repairs its self.
And last but not least is the Militia Kinetic Catalyzer this gives us a nice 5% run speed bonus. This is what makes our speed tank even better. It will help you chase down or run away from people so much easier, later on as your build SP you can get it up to 12%. Then you will be able to run circles around heavies and laugh when they canGÇÖt even turn there weapon fast enough to kill you.

Now letGÇÖs talk about where to go from here, I would recommend getting your Submachine Gun Sharpshooter skill to level 3 before anything else. This will make more of your bullets hit your target and when youGÇÖre spraying that many bullets it adds up. Once you have that done start putting points into shield extenders get it up to the level 3 and same with your armor repair. I am a firm believe that you should not move into the next suit until you have all your modules to same level as your current suit. That being said after you get your shield extenders and armor repair to level 3 get your dropsuit shield upgrades to level 3 this will give you a 15% shield increase of your base dropsuit shield. After that it is up to you. You could go ahead and start training into scout suits or work on getting your kinetic catalyzer skills up of even get you flux grenade skills up. It all up to you and what work best for you, there is one thing tho that you might consider and thatGÇÖs remote explosives. You have that empty equipment slot just begging to be filled, why not train for those drop one at a plasma cannon and when they go to take just press the trigger and smile. But thatGÇÖs best part of this game you can make it whatever you want it to be.

SMG is only really good against armor suits. Any good shield player can avoid your fluxes or gun you down while you cook.
SMG is really just a good point blank spay weapon. At close range, it has a higher DPS than an assault rifle of the same level.
If you can't aim very well, steer away from this as a primary.
BTW, I use an Ishukone Assault SMG with Proficiency 3 and dispersion 3. |

Thanks for the info I had a feeling the SMG was no longer viable.

I actually started off doing a similar dual SMG fit. My advice once you get more skill points would be to drop one of the SMGs and fit either Nova Knives or a Shotgun. Reason being is it is HUGE having a one hit kill option when you successfully sneak up on an opponent. That way you save your Fluxes for when you are caught in the act or someone see's you... IE when it counts. Also, Remote Explosives are quite useful to compliment this fit! 1500 damage will kill anyone even the most buffed out protosuit. I have even managed to scare off some tanks with a few fluxes to remove shields and then the RE's to blow away half their armor. My other suggestion would be to get rid of the Armor Repairer and stack another Kinetic Catalizer. Though I would wait to do this until you have at least Enhanced unlocked. This is what my fit looks like below. I rarely go negative anymore with it. The BIG key is to never attack the enemy head on and be wary around large groups of red dots cause odds are they are going to see you coming unless they are too busy shooting your team or you are lucky enough to find a sniper nest(tunnel vision) bwhahahahahahaha....
Minmatar Scout M/1 Series(ADV)
Highs: Basic Shield Extenders x2
Lows: Enhanced Kinetic Catalizer x2
Weapons: M209 Assault Submachine Gun(More DPS than the one listed by the OP though is more expensive and costs more CPU/PG) ZN-28 Nova Knife (Get your skill up to Proto Knives still for the decreased charge time)
Grenade: STD Flux Grenade
Equipment: Remote Explosives (great for laying traps or defending objectives)
EDIT: This suit costs 26.6k ISK |

Press and hold down the grenade throw button. Don't hold it too long though or it will explode in your hand killing you instantly. |

Thanks for the updated guide J Siegal, I've updated my Guide Compilation. I'm not usually a stickler for spelling, but just to let you know, it's Revised.

I like that idea never was good with the nova knifes but the shotgun was always fun. Gives me a sick grin on my face every time i killed someone with it. |

Thanks for the write-up, Bardas. I've been running a shotgun/SMG assault for a bit now, and it's really quite fun and satisfying.

I've been having fun doing this minus the flux grenades atm with a Gallente scout suit.
I call this my "Commando" fit because CCP needs to learn what the word Commando really means. Snake Eyes is a commando.
I'd like CCP to rename their heavy "Commando" suit the "Juggernaut" suit or something. |

Also remember that if the formatting on your guide is not quite right when you post it, you can edit your post to fix stuff such as missing paragraph breaks to make it easier to read.
I appreciate your initiative in creating a guide and posting it on the Rookie Training Grounds though. |

The way to get around this is to aim with your SMG and then quick switch for the kill shot when you get up close. This has the side benefit that people will let you get close with an SMG but will backpedal if they see you have a shotgun, so donGÇÖt show them your shotgun until your are ready for the kill shot. |

I had been doing it the other way around. You make a very valid point though. That's some good mindgame stuff right there. |

Since they increased weapon switch speeds it's an even better idea to have a second SMG now |
