For those of you who don't know me, I'm the famous nova knifer who has dedicated every SP and every minute of my time into specializing in nova knives. If you are patient enough, here is a list of my previous diaries that carry all of the details that I ever written:
From earliest to latest https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=40601&find=unread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=41545&find=unread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=44769&find=unread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=48336&find=unread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=59532&find=unread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=68032&find=unread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=76907&find=unread
Wow, what a list.
Anyways, I just completed my first official lecture earlier this week on Monday where I gave a detailed orientation on the nova knifing profession. Interestingly there were a lot of students attending and one of them was actually a dedicated tank driver who got interested. After 45 minutes of lecturing and back-n-forth Q&A, those of us in the class who had time decided to squad up so I can at least give them a taste of what to expect and what it takes to be a knifer. Needless to say we suffered heavy losses but we actually did pretty well and held our ground for a bit. At the very least, I tried to make sure they were close together as a group but that was difficult was maintain when the battlefield changes so dynamically and abruptly.
For those of you who are D-Uni members, I already have plans for another lecture hopefully by the end of this month. Stay tuned in the D-Uni section of the forums for details.
Also, I am curious to want to know why friend Nova Knife hasn't logged into the BACON-KNIVES chat channel after all this time. The password for the channel is zn28 and everyone knows this. Come on, Nova. Join the dark side. |

@Onesimus
Do I sound like that? Well, I post diaries all the time. I've been doing this since closed beta and I intend to keep doing this until there is nothing left to talk about which will be a very long time because most of my diaries are about what I have done along with tidbits of information on what I have researched on for others to learn from. Every now and then I even post my misadventures like how I died so many times that I often don't even look at my scores whenever I end up in a very bad match. My diaries are also meant to encourage others into Nova Knifing and so far there are more people knifing than I thought. Every few matches I would encounter at least one other knifer who is in the opposing side. |

Wait, is it because I post a lot of reserved posts that I seem desperate? I guess that might be the case, but that's only because I don't want to deal with the hassle of linking multiple replies into my OP and because I want to make it easier for the readers to catch up on info. |

@spec
Actually me and my D-Uni colleagues were running some experiments on the damage of the knives. Turns out that the knives have a 40% bonus damage towards shields and 20% bonus damage towards armor. This includes both charged and uncharged attacks. We had someone (with no skills on knives) use the AUR knife that you can use without any skill as a basis of the math involved. It's a weak knife, but does the job for those looking to gather data. |

Spec Ops Cipher wrote:The damage bonus only comes into play when you upgrade proficiency or use minmitar suit, aur knives should have no effect on this, because that skill only decreases charge time. And maybe you should test these in corp battles, who knows, an errant sniper could have interfered with your experiment.
Actually the damage bonus I'm talking about is not related to the proficiency or suit. It's a bonus of its own. The tests were conducted in isolated areas of the matches in three different matches to ensure consistency. PC battles would be inefficient for testing due to the resources required to start a PC battle just for a simple test. It was better to do it in the mercenary battles where we can choose separate sides. We did encounter one arrant merc messing with us, but thankfully he didn't skew the results. |

Alright, I set up a corp battle to try this today, with a team of SI on the other side, as test subjects. The testing was extensive and I was using Proto Minnie scout and Proto knives. Knives do 100% to shields and 100% to armour. Knives do 150% to the head A fully charged Proto knife does 600 damage per hit (+ your proficiency) I also investigated the effectiveness of damping and passive scanning - WHICH DO NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT WHATSOEVER. I'll be submitting a bug report including details of my tests later this week, maybe even tomorrow. I've wasted 2mil sp on these skills at the minute. We then played hide and seek, 'twas fun.
Hmm. That is interesting. I'll talk to my colleagues to see if we can review and conduct the experiment one more time to be sure. Thanks for the info. I'll let my directors know about this. |
