The Gallente scout bonus gives a 10%/LV increase to "scan radius". The Range Amplification skill gives a 10%/LV increase to "scan range". I have two questions about this:
1. Is scan range different than scan radius? Currently I am going with no on this one because the radius of a circle is just a strait line of a given length, and a given range is also measured as a strait line. I am just assuming that this is some kind of a typo on CCPs part.
2. Do these bonuses stack or do the two bonuses give a combined 100% to scan radius? Currently I am thinking that they stack, giving a combined total of 125% increase to scan radius.
If anybody has any information on these questions *coughs* Devs *coughs coughs* I would greatly appreciate it. |

I believe they are the same.

Dunno about stacking, though. However, even if they stacked to a 100% increase, your range would only double (don't get me wrong, that's a huge advantage - I run the gallente suit and i love seeing people trying to sneak around to flank me). |

I'm probably completely wrong, but from what I've heard, radius is for how wide the scanning "cone" of your radar is. Radars only really scan in a sort of V in front of it, the bigger the "radius", the wider the V gets, thus the more your radar can detect.
While range is how far it can detect a player within that V.
...or so I've heard, never really payed attention to all that stuff in depth myself. |

I fear that since very few, if any, of us know exactly how the scanner works and all the mechanics and calculations behind it, we can't really test the stacking unless CCP added it to the dropsuit stats.
And scan radius and scan range are the same thing.

Dropsuit radar is *supposed* to be a 360 degree radius.
The problem is that default dropsuit range is 10m. Which means you can't detect someone on the other side of a capturable. Default scan resolution is also 45nm.. which I believe means that you'll be blindsided by mediums and scouts every time.
The range itself is problematic, even Scouts, with their range bonus, have that horrific base range to work with. At best, with max skills, you may be able to push it out to 40m or so. You'll still never see mediums or Lights.
So a gallente scout with four range amps, high range skill, high G-scout skill, is still generally useless without an active scanner, which can detect everything in a forward cone extending 100+m and can be wielded by any medium. |

I think the scanning and dampener and precision are a bit fudged. People sneak on me, it says that they are close on my mini map but in reality they are far away. I want to see the whole enemy team! |

Dampening (or natural dampening from Scout specialization) theoretically makes you invisible to everything because you are too 'small' for any kind of passive radar to pick you up.
The other possibility is that the passive radar works like EVE targeting, where it just simply takes more or less time to 'lock' your signal and track you... given the time I've spent in close proximity to reds, this doesn't appear to be the case.
Active radar always picks up targets, and doesn't require a Scout to use, further bolstering the reason to not use scouts, and further pushing Logistic specializations |
