It's a Freemium. A halfassed game by design to feed off the 'give it a chance' crowd.
The minute someone says "free to play", it usually means a small, subpar game with a scam shop.
That's why it gets trolled so hard. You have a fully developed and committed PC-subscription base on the other side of the CCP wall that are going to be around for years taking pot shots at their [mentally deficient] cousin.
The trolling will continue until CCP decides to 'take it to Texas', or brings it up to speed to compete as a serious game. |

Duran Lex wrote:They also promised that these developments would happen over a 10 year plan.
It's only the 2nd year.
Developing as intended.
They better wait quick. They haven't gotten it working for the PS3 yet and the PS4 is almost out.
We'll be on the PS7 or 8 or P-BOne or something before 10 years is up.
Furthermore, it's a bad sign when your 'development plan' sounds like it was passed by US congress. |

Game development on this started not long after they announced the "Walking in Stations" or "Ambulation' projects for EVE online when they started developing a full-body 3d rendering system, since they dual-jacked it for Dust and WiS before they apparently gave up and bought a certain engine because they couldn't do it themselves.
EVE players have pretty good memories, so it's safe to say that this game has been "in development" since nearly 2006. That's right around the time Hilmar started drinking his own liquid hype and started 'dreaming big of projects he can't complete'. Then he started dreaming big and began to believe he can complete at least one of those things. To date, no EVE player has ever seen outside of their station prisons.
7 years and counting, and this is what we get? I overestimate CCP yet again! |

Maybe it is the limitations of the PS3 for their current dreams and goals. CCP Shanghai has not been doing a too good of a job with Dust. Maybe it is time to hand the bulk of the project to Iceland where EVE is originated really. Maybe when PS4 comes out, CCP already have their Carbon engine running on it and they want to be hush-hush and surprise everyone when it comes closer to launch of the PS4 and a relaunch of Dust (lol)
All Speculation here but yes, Dust has got VERY boring and they NEED some new shinies that would try to draw some of the older crowd back in. As I said in many threads, I'm a fanboy. Do you give up on your favorite sports team for not delivering? They will get better in all hopes. I hope CCP Shanghai actually starts to listen to us!
I know what you mean. I root for CCP every time, then gladly roast them to a fine crisp on the forums as they continuously fall flat on their face every time. Played EVE for six years, then got too old and casual to keep up with 30M every time the pod popped 'cause there's no room for industrialists in nullsec.
So I kept an eye on Dust, gave'm a while to work out the kinks, and now I'm here, gladly reminding them of how much they suck and need to do better. They're *capable* of producing better, but I think the "6-day weekend followed by 1 day of hesitation" work ethic needs to stop. |

having a strong engine means nothing. How many FPS games has had great engines and sucked. "But this is DUST, from EVE ONLINE!" EVE. A mmo. what's projects have ccp on their plate? another mmo.
FPS is not CCP strong point. Carbon engine be damned. It's a great engine, but It's not the most strongest engine out there. Nor the most versatile. Nor is it going to be a **** of a game better if it's still a **** of a game.
CCP needs to LISTEN to those fans that know FPS. to make an FPS game playable. EVE can and will be EVE with out dust.
Dust is just nothing without "eve". sad but true.
EVE is an asset as an IP, but they aren't leveraging it enough. There's a lot more lore going on that they can draw upon to make the game more of a persistant war effort and a little less like Planetside 2 without the factions.
They should elaborate more on the empire wars, and let the game itself drive a long-term narrative. Let mercs and merc corps generally and freely pick sides in ongoing conflicts to affect that greater narrative. Draw on Sansha's Nation and rogue drones as fuel for alternative combat modes where PvE comes as a match option, perhaps even randomly where both sides suddenly get their own maps facing off against a third party offensive. Use that MCC preload environment to use to create something more than a 'Gun Cafe'.]
That's with five minutes of thinking. If you can't implement that within a year, CCP shoudl probably fold up shop, because they can't HTFU and compete. |

Every time you shoot an AFK'er, god kills a carebear. Keep fighting the good fight! |
