So in EVE, assuming that one knows the game, can get a character and in less than a week, be effective in helping veteran characters in battle.
If you don't know what I mean, I will explain: there are mods that affect a ship's mobility or targeting range. A new character can get those trained at an entry level and be effective at influencing the battle.
This in my opinion, motivates a new player and gives a sense of importance.
I am not sure how this could be implemented in DUST, but enabling new characters in participating in PC would be great.
I personally got DUST because I used to play EVE and the sense of influencing a battle and ultimate the outcome of a game is what sets these games apart from everything else.
Right now to get into PC you need too many sp. Like what 5m? that would be 25 weeks at 200k sp per week. Most people, including me, am not willing to put 25 weeks to get into end game. In other MMOs one needs 1-2 months max. |

its 500k per week if you have both active and passive boosters on and you hit SP cap every week.
A decent proto build requires ~10 million SP.
So... 19 weeks to be all proto.
PC isn't for everyone though. FW should be where the metagame is at, its just so painful to queue into. |

Regardless, apparently you agree with me, 3 months + to get entry into end game, which is the selling point, ie. influence EVE, FPS with meaning, etc...
I agree PC isn't for everyone, but how then do you give meaning to the majority of players that are not PC capable/interested? |

The problem isn't the lack of tools for newbies to use, it's the lack of team space. I, with my lack of skill SP in dropsuits, mods, and weapons, could still unload a militia AR into someone and do fairly non-trivial damage. Give me a repair tool and I'm probably even more helpful.
But when the team is capped to only 16(?) people per side there's no room for the newbie. Not when there are dozens of people with 'spensive flashy gear in line to play. |

The best thing for a new player to do these days is one of the following:
If you're good at FPS games in general, go assault. A decent player can still down even protos as long as he remains inconspicuous. Anything else is skill before stats.
If you're BAD at FPS games go into logistics and just find a heavy and sit on his ass. Better if you can squad with a few friends.
These seem to be the only way a newer player can really help in PC, and right now, where every slot is valuable, the meta was reduced to "Elite corps, using their elite mercs using nothing but proto gear" and as you can see, it quickly died.
Don't worry, they'll have their place, it's just not clear where that is just yet. |
