They're bad at their intended job! A friend let me try out his Charybdis yesterday (a battle before I had the SP to be able to use LLAVs, good thing too, now I won't waste my SP); the results were lots of frustration when trying to support infantry, rather than being a deathtaxi.
Let's see the pros and cons of actually attempting their inteded role
Pros
- Reps very quickly
- Keeps repping even if the driver gets shot out
- The new targeting system for the rep is much easier to use than in previous builds
Cons
- The lockon for the rep takes FOREVER
- Once you're locked on and repping, infantry can easily break the lock by simply breaking the line of sight with the LLAV
- Once the lock is broken, the only way to target again is to turn off the module, wait for the cooldown, then restart it.
- While you can repair multiple infantry at once, you can only lock onto one at a time, even if there are multiple in the targeting square
- When you're driving to support, and not crush people, the driver is very exposed to gunfire.
- No WP
All in all, there was a lot of frustration and not much actual repairing going on.
My suggestions-
- Go with the common suggestion of changing the lock-on rep to something like the triage nanohive
- Change the skill bonus from increasing armor/shield resistance to decreasing the cooldown on active modules
- Give WP for the use of vehicle-mounted reps

I've got the caldari shield one, everytime i have tried to help, like you say, nothing but grief, i got shot out my llav trying to lock onto a tank
Can you even lock on to tanks? and if so, do they already have to have shields down or should i be able to lock on even if they have full shields?
an yeah, some kind of nano hive around the llav would be much better |

I don't under stand why its not:
Press button.
Everyone in area of effect is locked.
Apparently in the far far future, with FTL travel and advanced cloning technology. Actual computers are somehow hard.
If there is a way to make things akward for the players, CCP will do that first.
QED: The first iteration of exploration mechanics, when you had to wait an HOUR (Im not joking) to scan down a site. |
