Instead of things like scanners and afterburners, remote repairers, CRU's etc... being high or low slots, why not add in vehicle equipment slots?
This would allow vehicles who use their highs or lows for tanking to utilize some of the more fun modules around.
Some minor balancing might be required in some instances, but I feel like this would make more customization options available to a larger number of vehicles.
Also, you'd be more able to restrict certain items to certain vehicle types...
For example: If only airborne vehicle got equipment slots, only equips you'd want on those vehicles would be options. Things like countermeasures, after burners, bombs etc...
Just a thought, but I feel like it could add another layer to vehicle customization. Potentially, one could add equipment with no PG/CPU requirements (but high I$K cost) too provide additional functions to specific vehicles (the ones with equip slots).
For example, add an equipment slot to dropships... and (perhaps) a lock-on jammer (or something) that breaks a lock from swarms, lasts 15 seconds (enough to make a pickup/drop) with a 45-60 second cool down.
SInce (in this example) dropships would be the ones with the equipment slot it wouldn't work on other vehicles. Perhaps different equipment types for different vehicle types in the same way we have heavy/light weapons and sidearms. Only certain suits have sidearm slots, and only the heavy gets the option for heavy weapons.
I dunno... maybe I'm rambling. Just a thought. = /

The current balance doesn't allow for this but I really like the idea.
We would need excessive CPU/PG to be able to fit the equipment and most tankers would just use this to slap on more eHP and neglect the equipment slots.
But if the equipment didn't cost cpu/pg it couldn't be game altering things like nitrous or a mCRU.
Dunno. I believe there is a balance to be found and I would like to see this happen. |

I know what you mean, although I think everyone would just use the extra PG/CPU to add eHP, not just tankers. Isn't there something else in EvE you use for power? A capacitor or something?
Maybe vehicles should have a third 'power' number that applies for equipment only?
I dunno, I figured someone would come in here and doctor the idea up a bit. = )
