Here are 4 ideas I had for comms in the future. Can there be a way to customize our comms in such a way that the push to talk can only be used for talking to certain people?
1. Using Push to talk to select a different group than the open mic group.
Example: A Squad Leader and his squad have open mics, they communicate freely to each other, but the Squad Leader has push to talk set to the Ground Commander (either muting himself from his squad or not while using it). Example: The GC has open comms on his squad leaders, but push to talk sends a message to the whole team.
2. Proximity or targeting based comms.
Example: A logi who has his mic open with his squad needs to heal someone in a different squad or someone needs a logi support in a different squad, P2T can open comms directly with either everyone in a specified proximity or a targeted player. Example: Comms are open to everyone in proximity, but P2T links directly to the squad leader.
3. Designated roles Giving sub categories that people can designate themselves as, so customization is not based on what you were when you started.
Example: A SENTINEL has open comms with his squad, but has a proximity comm with all LOGI on P2T within a certain radius. Example: A TANK has open comms with their GUNNER, but has push to talk communicate with SQUAD LEADER and GC.
4. Allow changing of settings on respawn map. Make it like the suit selection. Also designation can be done on both the suit and warbarge.
Example: I have certain logi suits designated as LOGI to fulfill logistics healing roles , but other logi suits designated as ASSAULT so when I fill an assault role I'm not asked for help or left out of the fighting. As a squad leader, I will be on SQUAD LEADER until the role is given to someone else.
This would work better for larger maps with more players, as well as be an idea to help facilitate communication with new special roles. Currently the only strategy now is to strategically mute certain people who you are unlikely to need to communicate with, causing communication problems when the battle dynamics change. Like the overview setting in EVE they can be customized and stored, and it could be simplified when we can give everyone a role. It shouldn't be any more complicated than the overview settings. These are just some ideas for people to brainstorm. |
