Well, because I'm a freaking idiot, this will probably be obvious. I'm just wondering what this DUST API is that everyone's talking about?
I just need to know what it would mean for DUST, and what impact it would have on the players and just the game in general. Thanks in advance. |

API stands for Application Programming Interface. It's how different sorts of software interact with each other. EVE online has a publicly released API (as opposed to private). This means third parties can develop software which interacts directly with EVE to provide various sorts of utilities or access secondary or separate from the game client proper.
CCP has stated they want to release a Dust API, this would presumably serve a similar function, where people could access their characters or inventory and the like without being at a PS3. I'd suppose it would give function similar to the Neocom app they're making for Vita, depending on the skill of the programmer. Stuff like corporation management, market access perhaps, fittings probably... make sense? I don't know how far ahead on the timetable that is though, probably not close if they want to Vita App to be significant at all. |

also many corps in EVE require you to give them access to your public API, this allows the "corp leader" in most cases to have access to information like money transfers, assets, skills, and conversations.
if you haven't heard by now eve is made up of war, sabotage, trading of secrets and industry. so giving up access to a public API cod to the corp leader is almost mandatory in getting into most big name corps/alliances |
