So today I was able to get a couple of friends of mine to give Dust a try again. These guys had played before but had stopped due to all of the issues...not going to go into all of issues as that is like beating a dead horse. Anyway, these guys are not scrubs. We all go back to NES days...
We squad up and enter a skirmish. Two are wearing standard gear and one is in milita gear. We get thrown into a match just as the game is starting. We work together as best as we can but we are getting straight stomped...proto assualt here proto assault there...duv assault here core flaylock there...
The other berries with us were mostly miltia too so there was just little we could do.
Long story short they are probably gone for good now. Even though I have proto gear I very very very rarely run it in these public matches because I really believe that we are hurting the game over the long haul, especially when it comes to adding new players and friends to the game. These were two big name corps running close to full squads in proto gear in a public match against people in mostly militia gear. Even though we were told that once PC got here the proto stomps would be less....yeah rights.
Two questions:
1. For those who are looking forward with this game how do you encourage your friends to stay with the game, especially when they face the huge SP gaps?
2. Does anyone know how the match making will work to help prevent what I have described above?
I like Dust and I like playing with the guys in my Corp, but it sucks to see guys who you have gamed with for a long time, who would add a lot to the game walk away. I know they are not the only ones thinking and saying what I heard today. |

We really need a militia gear only game mode. (not just for new players, everyone).
If they implimented that, Id wager few of the other modes would be active. Simply because its a perfectly level playing field. Well okay skills contribute somewhat, but still. |

New matchmaking is on the horizon, building upon the current ELO system we have, that'll take gear choice into account when matching players. |

Pub stomping is definitely a problem. There are a few solutions the main one being changing your play style to directly counter theirs. I.e. guerrilla tactics with shotguns or NKs or sniping. However this isn't the best solution for everyone especially since many of these tactics involve a more solo style play and if you are just looking to have a quick fun game ( which is what instant battles really should be) it shouldn't really onvolve you having to take a serious approach to it in a role that you may not like.
Personally I believe the matchmaking system will go some way to alleviate this problem but if not then I agree in some sort of militia only mode ( maybe make the arena mode like this??? ) because even games are typically way more fun ( source playing academy on an alt ) |

Well the matchmaking code must have taken a break today when I played because no way in hell that game was balanced!

Sorry I didn't read the rest of your post, but I wanted to say....
That sounds like a good way to lose gaming friends. Take it from someone that has been "the guy" amongst any and all of his social circles, when it comes to gaming, for the past 20 years of his life.
Think of it this way. If a game that you're playing is so bad that you quit and give up on it before it's even fully released, then one of your friends comes to you and pleads with you to give it another try and come play with him assuring you that it's a lot better, then when you give in and trust them and go play the game again it ends up being just as bad or a worse experience than you remember......... .....just how often do you see yourself expending time/money to game with said friend again in the future, let alone TRUSTING their recommendations ever again?
It's kind of like how I'm pretty much stuck as being the go-to guy on "computer stuff" with everyone that knows me irl (should be more just like me around these parts, amirite?). From prefab systems to diy builds, from cell phones to tablets, from TVs to online accounts, etc..... if ever I wrecklessly steer someone wrong, it matters, and there's consequences. So, I either give them perfectly helpful advice that I have 100% full faith in, OR I stfu and tell them that I don't know and will do what I can to find out. |

Your mistake? Now is the WORST time to invite friends to this game... too many core aspect need desperate fixing.
Matchmaking, hit detection, terrain clipping, frame rates, etc...
Should have waited until 1.4 or 1.5 before bringing friends back to this game. |

You're right. If you invite your friends to play, they're going to think less of you for wasting their time. At least in Chromosome we could point to the Beta tag and say "Not only is it fun now, but it's going to get even cooler soon!'
Turns out we were wrong about it getting better, and now it's less fun than it was. |
